Hi I'm new to forum and new to fiat first fiat car I've owned just got it.been off road since august so needs service etc I'm a mechanic so that's no problem car only done 89000miles from new has all extras fitted.right what I'm wanting to know is will it respond well to decat read number of forums saying it drops the tourqe level down if you decat? Plus mixed opinion on induction kits was going to fit a BMC filter and cold air feed and a full custom exhaust with decat and look into a remap.just after a good remap service which is fiat specialist/reliable.and a bit info of other owners

Hi :) the abarth Stilo actually has two CATS one has the lambda sensor on (which as you know you'll need to pass the MOT emissions) and another that's fitted further down at the back of the engine. This second CAT doesn't have any sensors and can be removed and replaced with a straight tube section and weirdly doesn't effect the MOT. It's been done before with positive results.

I personally like the idea of an induction kit on the Stilo as it has a pretty good location under the battery away from warm stale air of the engine bay. I never did it with mine because of cost instead I compromised by fitting a K&N Panhellenic filter which is a lot better than a paper one plus it's pretty much a fit and forget item.

You still need to clean K&N filters then after cleaning they need treated with oil.performance filters may look clean but u will be surprised at how dirty they are while cleaning you should be able to see through a performance filter when held up to light with no dark patches

So I can decat but leave first cat in then?. I will be putting a full custom stainless on.unsure of standard diamator of pipe but I will be going for a bigger diamator to may fit a centre box but a high flow and a medium flow back box.then look into some good performance plugs air filter and a remap should go well

You won't need to clean them for a long time - K&N say there filters are good for 50000 miles before cleaning. A K&N panel filter would probably last even longer. Your exhaust idea sounds good. The second cat doesn't have any sensors so won't interfere with your cars ECU or the MOT :)

Yeah cheers can't wait to get it on the road. Yeah probably are but I personally clean them every service time just personal preference really.maybe I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my cars lol

They actually filter better when fairly dirty. Can't see a bigger bore pipe actually helping -- you might even find you loose bottom end. FIAT don't usually get their pipes wrong.

The old solution to making the Stilo 2.4 go properly used to be to find a 20v Coupe lump and build a 2.4 Turbo by mixing and matching the bits. Don't know the details.

The Stilo crank is incredibly sturdy and would handle a turbo easily enough. Some coupe owners have fitted 2.4 blocks into there cars using standard Stilo cranks. Forged rods and sport cams are availed but very pricey - especially the cams, the cheapest I've seen are around £800

A remap will boost the power quite a lot. Mines been done and is close to 200bhp now. For the money it's a well worth while modification :)

If I can leave totally standard bottom end I will turbo it but I think a remap and good exhaust and filter and some performance plugs to start with I was looking for 200bhp to start with

I would go NA way

1) exhaust

- completely rework into the bigger diameter (60mm, standart is 54mm.) you can use sport cat and two silencers (I use only one on my 1.8 - 54mm oversized piping without cats, and its quite loud..)

2) leave the filter as it is... you will not gain any HP... paper in original box is enough.. you can drill the airbox with few holes before filter and improve feed of air into airbox by minimizing pressure drop before filter... it will gain more than some cotton filter etc...

3) performance camshafts... reprofiled or brand new...
4) timing variator OFF and set camshafts somewhere between 105/105- 110/110 ° (I prove this on mine 1.8 with 2l TS camshafts, its simply faster when I disabled variator and set the cams at 106/109° instead of 92-117/112°...)
5) live map...+ supporting mods

with this mods you can be very high.. around 210BHP/270Nm... its quite enough for road use in daily car without not much money spent...

just check this: http://www.fccuk.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1461733#Post1461733

bigger injector (+complete remap of course) only if you surely know that you reached their maximum...

otherwise it will be too rich and you will be facing problems during cold conditions and with overfuelling in whole range of rpm and loss of power...if you only put bigger injectors without modifications in ECU...

after cams you should check AFratio with wide band lambda...best place where to check it is on dyno... trace of AF with rpm vs torque graph will shou you where you should add/remove fuel... Multiecuscan/FIatecu scan is also usefull tool but only for rough guess where the AF ratio is. (acc. to lambda sondvoltage..)..you can log everything you want (what software offer for logging..)

Looking at k&n typhoon filter the complete cold air kit. Anyone got one are they any good they look great

Plus what's the best plugs anyone? Was looking at Bosch super 4s but would like to know what best performance plugs are for them as I know different engines like certain plugs I personaly fit NGK rs to all my cars but can't find NGK performance plugs for the abarth

Yeah 240 quid for a k&n typhoon but looks worth it as replaces pipe with a nice free flowing metal one and it has a mount welded on to bold maf sensor in.looks a nice bit of kit thinking of getting one. Cheers al check them out I have had spitfire plugs in some of my cars and there good especially the platinum v plugs but can't find any seems there's not much off the shelf for the stilo abarth
