Hi, I have a Fiat Tipo 1.4ie (M Reg).

Today I noticed when trying to use my wipers a fault which I can't quite understand.

When I turn on my wipers, intermitant or full pelt, they dont come on. After trying a few times the suddenly started working and appear to be OK when on (although at intermitant they are hit and miss).

It appears to happen everytime i put them on, sometimes taking several attempts before they got going. Each time I turn on my wipers they move slightly as though they are stuck. Eventually they work.

I'd rather not take it to a garage and spend a fortune but I will need to get them sorted ASAP, ANY IDEAS?

Cheers

without knowing much really i would guess its a loose connection on the stalk dunno how you would fix it though, good luck

Stalk would be the first place to check, Also try squirting some water and listen for the motor, if there is sometimes sound and sometimes no sounds then its def the stalk however, if water squirts all the time but the wipers sometimes move and sometimes don't move then it might be at the wiper end the problem lies.

It could be the stork or the mechanism - if you pull the wipers away from the screen doeit all work? if so then it could be the motor or similer. If nothing haooens it sounds like the stalk.

proberly either the stalk contact track or the wiper spindle.pull wipers from screen and turn on.does spindle move? if not, stalk.needs removing and the track cleaning.:) if this does not cure it,replace stalk:)

If they are working jerkily, then grease on the motor shaft may have migrated down on to the contact plate on top of the motor. No garage ever solved this for me, but its easy to fix by removing, wipers, intake grill, rack and lifting out the motor and cleaning the contact plate.
