I'm informed (by a slightly dubious source) that this electro valve controls the fuel flow when A/C is in use. I have the unit with carb and vac pipes won from a scrapper, but no idea where the live cable runs to/from.

I'd be much obliged if anyone can help.

Thanks for the response, Michael.

As to which MK my Tipo is, I haven't a clue, I've only owned it since 1999.
The "log book" states that it's a 1991 - 1.4 - 160 AB 55A.
It was originally a very basic model with no extras, not even a glove box.

I'm not sure which "service manual" you're referring to, I've had a hard copy of Haynes since 99 and Porter on pdf for a couple of years.

Not sure if you wanted a PM, or just a reply, so have done both.
Thanks in advance,
Pepe

This solenoid does not appear in my service manuals and I wonder if the UK models are different to the Tipo in your country ?

However part 5 in your picture appears to show the electronic fuel cut off module, in my Tipo this is Mounted near the back of one of the headlamps and its purpose is to cut off the fuel supply when decelerating, the solenoid in mine is screwed into the side of the carburetor, so I am assuming yours not been a UK model has the similar set up with just a different solenoid and mounting position.
Have a look at the photos and let me know if you need any more info ?

Here is the diagram for mine and it shows the live wire for the solenoid goes to pin 6 of the electronic fuel cut off module.
Thanks for making the effort.
The part in question was removed from a 1988 1.6 DGT model that had Digiplex.
My 1991 model is a basic 1.4 with electronic ignition and the fuel cut off control module and valve are where you stated.

I'm making inquiries in Argentina at the moment, in the hope that one of the many Tipo owners there can shed some light on this, but it seems quite unlikely, as the early models didn't go on sale there.

As I said in the OP, I'm led to believe it's a unit to control fuel flow when the A/C is in use, which is what I'm trying to confirm.

NB: To the best of my knowledge, there were no special differences in Tipos exported to Spain.

You are correct,
Not me, my informant in Argentina is correct.
the solenoid is part of the fast idle circuit and opens only when the air con is switched on allowing the vaccum coming from the inlet manifold to act on the carburettor stage 2 fast idle valve.
That's great news!
Now all I need is the answer to the question in the OP, where, or what its live feed plugs into and hope you can help with that.

Leave it with me until tomorrow night as I am going to A funeral in 30 mins, I spent quite a long time last night studying the service manual and wiring diagrams but for some odd reason the solenoid does not appear in any of the wiring diagrams for the Mk 1 Tipo, so I will have a look at the MK2 and see if this gives any clue.

Have a read at this . Not found where it connects to yet though.
Previous post was prepared about an hour ago, posted late.

Thanks for the latest pics, they'll be very helpful, with more information than I've been able to find so far.

Where can I get copies of the manuals you're using? No information about them to be found on the web.

This is a total mystery, despite featuring in the service manual the solenoid is not showing in any of the wiring diagrams, the only thing I can think of is there must be perhaps a separate manual covering operation of the air conditioning. However let's examine this, the purpose of the solenoid is to increase the engine tick over speed only when the air con is switched on ,the air con compressor is likely to draw a high current so will almost certainly be controlled by a relay ,so the most likely place to feed a 12 volt supply to the air vaccum solenoid would be the output of the air con relay.Sorry I can't be of anymore help .The service manual s I use would have been supplied to Fiat dealers and would therefore not be on general sale, your only hope of obtaining these now would be a closing down Fiat main dealer.

In the 27 years I've lived in Spain I've only ever had a handful of siestas, yesterday included. I awoke having had a Eureka type moment, realising that the solenoid is only in operation when the compressor is switched on reminded me of the (attached) drawing I made after removing the A/C from a scrapper.

I expect to hear from a guy in Argentina tomorrow, he's checking the solenoid feed wire colour, which I think is green.
If so, I can wire it through a relay that's operated via the trinary switch, or compressor feed.

PS: I'd be most obliged if you could post the diagram that goes with the page:

TWO STAGE FAST IDLE (for versions with air conditioning)
