Well after not doing much on the Teapot for a while I've finally got the welding and engine mounting done!
The MOT is due on the 15th May so hopefully everything will be OK now.

Post a list of the things you need to do to the car...

You've mentioned the seats and parcel shelf, I may be able to help out with those as I've got a parcel shelf somewhere and a decent 5-door interior and bits and pieces in your colour. Plus those cool Italian Fenner speakers. And I might do a deal on my 14" Brava alloys with Goodyear Vector tyres that I use for our brutal winters!

I'll have a dig and post stuff in the classifieds.

The only problem is that I'm right across the M62 from Hull, just over the Mersey from Liverpool.

If you came over to collect we could meet up with Camo.

Sounds like a plan!!!
Car is playing up at the moment, got a slight juddering when going slow (20-30mph),
put some new spark plugs in it but it's still doing it.
I've got it booked in for Monday 9th for MOT so I'll ask him to have a look when he's there. Hopefully it will just be stupid like plug leads, roter arm etc.
Still using it as not keen on driving the wife's mini!!

Cheers Bluejohn message me with prices!!
How you getting on with yours Camo????

I know what you mean Camo, I'm having juddering issues now with mine after getting a load of work done on it.
Best thing for these old Fiat's is to use them and abuse them and you don't have any problems! LOL
Mine was running great before I got the work done!!!

I've spent too much on my teapot to sell now, I got rid of my Lancia and managed to pick up a BMW Mini for the wife which keeps her happy.

Still doing my Lambretta up and DIY around the house!
No rest for the wicked.

puntofan01 - the car itself is fine...but the exhaust is loose AGAIN and my mechanic mate can't seem to get it permanently fixed and the new clutch is leaking oil. Everything that hasn't been fixed (as with Bobbylad) is perfectly fine. I'm getting annoyed...don't want my beautiful Tipo to sound like a shed. Grrr

1st. Need MOT (booked in on Monday 9th)
2nd. Running Issue (juddering at low speed)
3rd. Passenger electric window not working and don't know why?
4th. Interior needs sorting (it's a mess)
5th. Alloy Wheels (not sure which ones but something cool)
6th. Bodywork sorting (again, it's a mess)
7th. Paecel shelf
8th. Stainless Exhaust

That exhaust problems sounds unreasonable.
Ask your "mechanic mate" to try harder.
As for the clutch, where is it leaking oil?
Clutches don't have oil.

Sorry, I meant fluid, not oil. It's due an inspection to find out why.

I agree about the exhaust issues. :( Not best pleased.

MOT Time!!!!
Dropped off this morning at 9.15am for MOT and to sort out juddering!!!
Not heard anything back yet?
Whay is it they say - "No news is good news"??
GULP!

Hope these niggling issues get resolved, I wonder if Camo actually got the right exhaust for the car? Don't know about the gearbox oil leak but of course seals etc will be aged by now so something like that could be the leak, maybe from the end of the gearbox (should have been visible when the clutch was done).

As for Bobbylad's juddering clutch.. mine can do that a bit (original clutch) so I don't know if yours needs changing soon, Camo can comment how smooth his new one is and what make it was... However Bobbylad did say some weeks ago he thought his engine / gearbox mounts were floppy and I found some new parts for him, but didn't hear if he did anything about it...

My Tipo just quit on me near to home the other night... just cut out and wouldn't restart.

Got the AA out yesterday and after 45 mins and some headscratching it was thankfully sorted. We found quite quickly that ist was fuel, more specifically the injector body was not spraying. Turned out that a wire feeding the voltage-drop resistor in line with the injector had somehow become faulty internally and wasn't giving 12 Volts. A quick replacement section had it running fine. The good thing about the AA - even for old cars - is that they have diagnostic hints on their computer to work through problems with useful hints.... his computer did indeed say "broken wire" as a likely cause!

Thanks bluejohn125 - it was the right exhaust, though after market so needed a bit of fettling. Not there yet. To be fair I haven't looked at it since my last post on here. Clutch fluid is down to a gator fault/mis-fitting, apparently. Again, not fixed yet.

One day it'll be done properly. Until then it's back to the Nemo.

Glad yours is fixed again.

It passed!!
By the skin of the teeth.
Yes Bluejohn thanks for the info I got the part and had it fitted when I had the welding done.

I've been informed that the juddering (I say juddering, it's more like a misfire that causes it to judder at a certain speed???)
is the Single Point Injector Unit????
I've been told I need to replace the whole unit????
I cannot find one anywhere and it's pissing me off!!!

Any help, advice on this issue is most welcome as I don't know what to do next????
I'm no mechanic but cannot understand why the whole unit needs replacing??

I don't think it would be the SPI unit... it's just an electronic carburettor really and supplies all cylinders, so a judder (I interpret that as misfire or rough-running...) should not be caused by say one cylinder not getting the right fuel. Historically the idle-control unit (a stepper motor on the bach of the SPI) was a problem item that you could swap, but I think that gave a "hunting" kind of problem. Otherwise there are 3 connectors to the SPI.. throttle position sensor (passenger side), control connector (rear) and a "butterfly position sensor" on the driver side... plus the inlet manifold temp sensor right at the back that goes to the ECU. If the connectors and wiring for these seems OK (rubber coatings don't age well) then maybe something needs cleaning.

If you want you can check that the valve clearances are OK (quite straightforward) and also check compressions.

Is yours the later engine setup with a Punto-type coilpack on the battery side of the engine, or the earlier one with a conventional distributor?

Bluejohn, you know your stuff!
Still confused with all these sensors etc???
I think mine is the older type, when you remove the big black plastic air box, it looks like a carb in the middle that the black box screws in to and my dizzy comes out of the right hand side of the rocker cover.
It does run OK when doing 50mph+, its when your doing between 25 and 40mph it mostly happens. It feels like someone has got hold of the back of the car and trying to pull it back.
However when you first start the car in the morning, it starts OK but then after a few seconds it starts to stuggle as if it is going to cut out. It doesn't cut out and once you give it a couple of revs it's OK.
Also, its sometimes difficult to start once its had a run and is still warm.
I'm pissed off as I've just spent a bit of money on it and thinking I would have to scrap it because it was totally knackered.
Do I just give the sensors a good clean etc.
What's the best way to fix this as I have no idea???
