Hi all,

I have recently bought a 1.4 Tipo, first registered in 1996 so I guess it would be one of the last made. I bought the Haynes manual for it but this only covers the earlier models so isn't much good for info on the engine for instance. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get info on the engine and any other updates not covered in the old Haynes manual?
The engine in this one (1.4SOHC, 8V I think?) has a Bosch injection system which I believe is the single point system (MonoMotronic?) but I'm not sure...
Anyway, when I drove the thing before buying it there were no identifiable problems. However since getting it home the 'injection warning' lamp on the dashboard is more or less permanently lit. It doesn't seem to have much effect on the drivability, although the acceleration is a bit jerky but it was like that when I bought it. I guess one of the engine sensors is getting an incorrect signal? Does anybody know what sensors are fitted on these engines (Lambda, throttle position etc?) and which is most likely to be acting up?
Apart from this it looks to be a great little car and we hope to keep it running for a good few years yet! I'll upload some photos too when I get the chance.
Cheers, Tim

Good luck with the car, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

There is a very simple engine management system on these... the lambda sensor is a possible culprit, otherwise crank sensor or maybe temperature sensor. In any case there is a diagnostic port to analyse and reset ECU messages so that should be your first approach at an autoelectrician or reliable garage.

You should also consider if the CAT is the original - they can block up or fail after 15 years and could benefit from a dose of Cataclean or maybe even replacement.

And check the cambelt - not worth ruining a nice engine or car with an unnecessary failure.

Thanks for the tips! I'll try and track down the Cat cleaning stuff for sure.
The cambelt was changed a couple of thousand kilometers ago, the car came with a full service history for the last few years - that was one of the reasons why I bought it :)
I would still like to get more info on the Motronic system though, would it be the M1.7 version? I haven't even been able to locate the control box yet...
The lambda sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold, right? Or is that a temperature sensor?

Lambda sennsor is in the exhaust, correct. Temp sensor is at the rear of the engine at the top, into one of the manifolds. Crank sensor is down the side of the engine by the bottom of the cambelt cover. There is an idle control valve / actuator / stepper motor that occasionally gives problems but I don't think you've got idling problems.

I think a lot of the fuel and engine management stuff was common with some Citroens of that era, e.g. ZX etc.

Like I said it's quite simple but you should look at the diagnostics.
