Hi Guys,

I have a Tipo 1.6 Litre engine (mark 160A2000) installed in a 93 Tempra.

Some idiot mechanic, while replacing a clutch (for the previous owner of the car), played with the dowels on the flywheel that the iginition flywheel sensor senses. As a result the ignition timing advance is all wrong (about 7 degrees instead of about 12), the engine is weak and tends to stall, fuel consumption is poor, etc.

By the way, everything in the ignition system (except the Digiplex) including the flywheel sensor was replaced to no avail. The system also produces very strong sparks, only at the wrong time!

I looked at the flywheel and I could see 5 dowels that the sensor can read. Two are just next to each other (this pair is exactly below the sensor when piston no. 1 is at TDC) and are of the same height. Of the other three, one is about 2 mm shorter than this pair (it looks like this is the way it sould be as it shows no signs of damage), one is also as high as the pair and one was bent and looked like it had some hard time in the hands of a mechanic with a pair of pliers.

I straightened the molested dowel as best I can and now the car does not even start!

I am unable to get a good flywheel to look at to see how things are supposed to be.

A look at the fiat catalog shows that there should be 6 dowels on the flywheel (though I fail to see an extra whole on my flywhel), 3 with the same part number and three each with a different part number.

It is versy hard to figure out from the catalog if all 6 pins are used to signal the flywheel ignition sensor (which may explain why I fail to see an extra hole).

Can anybody make sense of this mess?

Does anybody have a good flywheel he can look at and figure out how things should be?

Thanks in advance,
Benjamin
