Brake upgrades

Hi Guys

Can I just strap some coupe 20v discs and brakes on my sedici or is it a little more complicated than that?

Seen some coupe 20v brembo calipers and thought why not give the beast a proper upgrade.

Thanks for your time

if you fancy a long read into brake upgrades click here

think it needs mounting plates to fit the larger callipers. which would have to be found/machined.

then you also need the alloys to fit over the larger brakes, if the existing ones haven't got the clearence needed.

No its not, 16vt calipers go straight on with sedici discs is easy as that.

20vt brembos have wider spacing, needing either adaption or 20vt struts hubs, wish bones, steering rack (coupe 16v) and wheels to clear the calipers. That lot doesnt actually cost so much as for breaking the struts and hubs etc are worth very little. the track is wider hence the rack as the tipo one will not reach the hubs.

I have coupe 16v rack 20vt wish bones (all the same on the coupe), tipo hubs, 16vt calipers on brembo tipo discs, I could out break all the coupes at mallory with ease (although the tipo did weigh less).

Re: Brake upgrades

I tried to hit eper last night and just got confused over which brakes the Tipo came with.

The coupe 16vt seems to have come with a choice of 4... two of the 15mm pin and 13m bolt type, and two of the 7mm hex pin type.

I've a set of the hex pin type from a Marea weekend 2.4TD (same as 20v) - are they smaller piston than the 16VT coupe ones?

I'd have put links and images but the eper is broken/busy as usual.

Re: Brake upgrades

I'll whip out the calipers then, and a set of calipers and get the pistons measured.

Apart from anything they seem a better design as the 15mm pin seems to jam up with heat and brake dust, and it's inside the caliper and unservicable. Nobody seems to want to buy them so rather use them myself than scrap them.

Re: Brake upgrades

Now... these calipers have been sat around a while. Will they need to be serviced/reconditioned before fitting? Don't want to drop my working Tipo calipers for the Marea ones only to find they screw up somehow.

Re: Brake upgrades

If the pistons move then they'll be ok, I just painted mine checked the pistons moved and the caliper would slide then stuck them on and bled them - job done.
