Hello everybody!

I am writing from Hungary and hope that someone can help me.

I have a 95' Tipo 1.4I.E and lately I changed the original dashboard to another one from a 2.0GT.
Everything is working normally except the tachometer because there is no connector for it from the first time.
On the dashboard at the back I can find the pin for the tachometer but don't know where to connect it.
I was told that the tachometer should be connected to one of the cables that goes to the ignition transformer. (the transfomer and the distributor is integrated into one piece so it is not the old one)
I tried two cables (yellow and blue) but nothing happened.

Maybe somebody can help me to find the correct cable to connect it to the pin on the dashboard.

I would be really thanksful!
(sorry for my not really good english)

You must conect wire to left brown wire to ignition coil.

Hello Strauss!

Thank you for your help!

On the dashboard at the back i found the pin to connect a cable but my problem is that I have a different ignition transformator. It has only 3 cables.
You can check it on the picture.

Unfortunately only 3 cables goes to the transformator:
1. yellow
2. red
3. blue

When I switch on the ignition I can measure 12V on the red cable and nothing on the others.
But I was told that the tachometer must not be connected directly to 12V. They say it needs quadrangle signal.
I tried both of the blue and yellow cables but nothing happened.
So I don't have any idea anymore. :(

Maybe I can do help on this matter.
But I need to know exactly which ECU you have managing your engine.
Should be one of these: Magneti Marelli or Bosch MonoMotronic.

Hello svcglobal,

First I would like to say thanks for your help.

I checked the ECU can be found on the left side of the vehicle, under a black plastic cover.

It is Bosch Motronic. ( 0 261 203 511)

I am waiting for your answer.

My Tipo 1.6IE uses the 0 261 203 388 but I think they should be the same except for the internal ROM injection maps.
See in the schematic below that wire enhanced by yellow pencil.
The 163A item is the Bosch ECU. Disregard the item 12 or 13A, they are different ECUs.
Just to give you more data I added also the ECU connections picture.

So, try to find in the cabling that come from the ECU plug that brown/white (MB = marrone e bianco) wire.
On one side, it is connected on ECU pin 24 and it is a RPM square-wave signal exclusive for the RPM gauge.
If this wire is not present on your car's cabling, you will need to install a new one, a piece-of-cake job.
The connection on the RPM gauge (on dashboard) I think you already know, right?

Hello,

I have nothing else to say just thank you for your help!

Your advice worked very well, I found the brown/white cable, have it blanked, connected it to the previously installed cable from tachometer, and now it works!
:)

Thank you again, and i send my best wishes from Hungary to Brazil!

Have many more happy and free from care kilometres!

Bye!

Sergio, have you by any chance got wiring diagrams for the sedicivalvole's clocks?

Joecee, glad to ear that and happy motoring with your Tipo.

Christian, what you mean for "clocks"? Panel gauges?
The only difference between SPI 8 valve and MPFI 8/16 valves cars, as far I should know on this last one, are two more gauges in the dashboard for monitoring the oil (pressure and temperature).
In some countries (like Brazil) the speedo is also electric (pulse sender) - no steel cable to drive the gauge and in others is the good old mechanical cable.

Please be more specific about the connection you are referring and let me know exactly which Magneti Marelli model is your ECU (IAW????).

Sergio

Hi mate - I mean the wiring diagrams for the rear of the dashboard pod/panel gauges, yes, with the speedo and the other 5 gauges? It would be very helpful and make fitting of the my new digital dash faster. When I fit the digital dash, I intend to get seperate digital dials for the oil temperature and oil pressure and mount them in the centre console.

Okay, let me receive my DGT painel.
I will take pictures during the job and make a new table of the wirings for you.

Your analog cabling is exactly the same of the 1.4 or 1.6, there will not anything different to do for that replacement on the 2.0 16v.

Anyway, be prepared to replace also the oil pressure and temp senders since the gauges need its own metering device.

That woudl be awesome mate - I would be particularly interested in how you manage without the original DGT wiring plugs. We only seem to have Maplin to turn to in the UK and they don't sell anything useful at the best of times :(

Fiat components are not so difficult to find here in Brazil since we have a big native FIAT factory plant here, at the state of Minas Gerais. It is more than 30y old.
Better yet, the local industry also made a lot of replacements parts that are not such expensive as the original.
Don't ask me the quality of these but keeps the car running, you know.

Follow-up:
DGT dashboard arrived yesterday from Germany, already tested and worked just fine. 78547 km on odometer, great.
Seller sent it without cabling's side connectors so removed the three original from the panel printed-circuit board and soldered a piece of computer flat cable on its holes.
There are exactly 25 connections to do so a standard computer DB25 male/female with golden pins will correctly interface the panel and car wiring.
Will post again with results soon.

Job done.
The only problem was the tach signal. The BOSCH ECU sends a square-wave signal and the panel is supposed to get pulses from primary winding of the HT coil.
Just a single cut on PCB trace of INT0 interrupt of the NEC D7508HC panel microprocessor, a pair of 22K resistors and worked fine.

Those dashboard pics look great. Shame the Tipo was never sold here. Can you post up more interior and backseat shots of this great little car?

Hi Svcglobal,
I am new on this forum, and I try to adapt a DGT Dashboard onto a Fiat X1/9 with a Bravo/Brava 16s engine. Everything works fine, except the tachometer
Your post is very old (2009), but perhaps you (if you're always here, or someone else ?) can help me with the tachometer modification :
You said that you cut PCB line to INT0 of D7508HC, ok, and you just add 2x 22k resistors : can you give me more details please ? a small schema would be very nice ;-)
Thanks
