PPC track day Mallory Coupes Tipo Uno + more

Hi guys although there is a thread for this in events, if you're like me you don't spend more that a few minutes quickly looking in the same places. So rather than miss it thought I'd post up here.

PPC magazine held a very cheap sessioned trackday at mallory this weekend, I went with a few coupe guys my neighbour and our mate with 205 gti and Civic type R. One of the coupe guys dropped out and my other mate who turned up with no intention of going round the track went round in his fabia VRs - good effort.

I had to change my discs on the day and shouldnt have accepted the run out I had measured in the week. I only filmed 1 and a bit sessions as usual fairly busy with the whole event to play with the camcorder.

The coupes were fast, one had 320 bhp and took a bit of getting past, didn't get overtaken, but sometime let so fools have the space if they got the red mist into a corner - I know I can make the corner at speed can't be too sure about the fools making the same manouver. See the vids here select HQ for better pic and sound

there are some other videos from other which are of the same session on youtube, eg this one check the sound a 7.16 minutes - yeah baby!!!

It's difficult to judge speed when you're in a race with similar performance cars...

but bloody hell Rich. You've built a weapon there. Just the speed on the straights is enough but on top of that you seem to be able to hold a huge speed advantage through a corner. If ever the chance of a passenger run comes along let me know.

Gutted that I couldn't come to this one, but I had my own race to win

Cheers guys, you know this is also 3 seconds slower then my race pace too, I didn't ever want to overtake on the outside of Gerrards and have the ineer car loose it and take me out. It all seemed a bit lack luste at Brooklands with its tall first gear but this chap (who was next to me in the paddock) allows you to see how fast it is when rolling, he wasn't going to take me up the inside of the hair pin (its a bit naughty you know on a trackday), watch here at about 9 minutes.

Barry Scott would be impressed.

Bang... and the Tipo is gone!

I have to say after knowing how much work and money you'd put into it, it all seemed a bit disapointing at Brooklands. But in it's natural habitat you can really see it's working well.

So what's the secret of it's speed? I'm guessing the Coupe 20vt are higher bhp/torque (220 std?), so is it just gearing and weight? A 20vt is about 1300kg and geared for 155mph.

Re: PPC track day Mallory Coupes Tipo Uno + more

None of those coupe were standard, all had 280 bhp plus one of the red ones was dyno'd there with 320bhp. Weight and corner speed - oh and the driver. If I had to race with standing starts I'd have different set up for sure, but when moving it was great to keep up with far more powerful cars, I have a few more RPM then they do as well.
