Here is the level I am working to , these are the 2 bolts and washers that fasten the rear towing hook to the chassis, the bolts and washers have been dipped in a bare metal rust remover, re painted in zinc galvanizing paint and when the tow hook is bolted back to the chassis it will have a final top coat of hammerite.

Back under floor of the car has any rust removed , inspected with jewelers eyeglass to make sure no rust remains in any pitted metal, primed with zinc paint and top coat of black hammerite.

Epic restoration, that! I'm in awe of your attention go detail. :) Would love to see more photos as the silver beast comes together... Well done, sir!

Impressed and excited with that Tipo restoration.. must be a really early one.

I don't understand the comment about not liking the silver colour... I had an M-reg 1.4 ieS and loved it in silver.... unfortunately it jumped a kerb and headbutted a lamppost, and then it was no more. Got a sad photo somewhere...

Re: Calling all tipo owners! URGENT PLEA!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

So happy to see there are other proud Tipo owners out there!

Mine has just died after 7 happy years together and it is going to the breakers yard at the end of the month unless I can find a new home for it.

Does anyone want it for spares or repair? I'm very sad to see it go to the crusher. Needs the cam belt replacing so currently a non-runner but otherwise MOT till June '17.

Lmk quick if you are interested or if you can encourage me to take on the project myself!

Hope to hear from someone soon! :D

Don't know how to add photos but it is currently advertised on the Friday Ad website if you want to search it (not too many Tipo ads on there!)

Hi Michael,

I see you've been restoring a Tipo. Would you recommend it as a project? I have to scrap mine at the end of the month but am tempted to stick it in a garage and gradually fix the engine and then restore the outside to former glory. Is it worth it? How hard has it been to source parts?

If you need any parts lmk quick and you are welcome to use my 1995 Tipo ies as an organ doner! But tax runs out Oct 31st so then it's crunch time.

Hope to hear from you soon!

1.4 or 1.6..?? some parts are now harder to get..,

Absolutely keep the car (or advertise in the forum Classifieds), they are sadly very rare now but parts are available through Ebay etc, the 1.4 is straightforward, it is a solid, simple reliable engine although the last models had a modernised ignition and ECU system that is not understood by most computer "number plate" checkers so they will send you the wrong plug leads etc. Cambelt should be very easy and cheap, but must be done.

A confident enthusiast should have no problems with a refurb project, the main issue with these cars will be rust around the sills and floorpan. They can develop funny and mysterious issues with idling and rough running, usually due to the ECU / Injection / sensors / wiring. It can be difficult to nowadays find someone who can trace and fix this.

Sorry about the slow reply.i would recommend keeping the car as these are getting very rare now,i have two both mark one models best car I ever had and easy to rebuild .as you say parts are getting hard to come by but on the plus side there are so few tips about when parts appear on e bay not many people are looking for them.i have seen the odd took recently on e bay but never near enough to where I live.if you do not decide to keep don't take it to the scrap yard i don't think you would have any trouble selling if to a private buyer.

Please do keep it if you can. It would be sad to see another of these great cars going for scrap. I bought one a few months ago and am in process of overhauling it. Made a list of tasks in priority order and am gradually working my way through these. I called on my trusted Fiat specialist for the heavier jobs needing professional equipment but am doing the rest myself. An easy and rewarding car to work on for someone like me with just basic mechanical knowledge. Some parts have been hard to find but nothing has defeated me yet. Plenty of good advice available on this Forum!

more info..from the seller " Consuela ";
""The cam belt snapped. The garage said it then got wrapped around the engine so sounded like it was going to be a big job to replace it. But it's good for spares so if you want it please lmk asap as I was going to get a scrappie to collect it next week but I would much rather it got used than crushed. It had 2 new tyres in June and had quite a bit of work not long before that to fix an oil leak and it was a really good runner until a few days before the belt snapped. The tax runs out at the end of October so I need to do something with it before then either way.""

I suspect it'll need top-end work if the belt has snapped .., but even the new tyres could make it worth a go - for little more than it's scrap value

shame I'm 3 hours away..

Thanks for putting that message up for me Charlie.

If anyone is interested in all or part of my Tipo before it goes to the crusher please get in touch before it's too late.

Thanks,
Clare
