sticking clutch pedal.

when i put my foot on the clutch it stays down though usually pops back up. i've WD40'd the pedal mechanism and i'm assuming it's just that or something. but just to check this isn't an indicator of something happening?

Re: sticking clutch pedal.

Is the pedal free, easy and floppy? (technical word) It should be all of those.
Check the pedal return spring for condition.

If all is well at the pedal, I can only imagine it could be the clutch pressure plate giving out.

Mine doesn't have a slave cylinder, it's a direct linked cable to clutch release arm.
Which model Tipo uses hydraulics?

Early Tipos used a cable in some markets. But most Tipos have hydraulic clutch pedal. If its cable, the cable could be frayed and sticking in the outer sheath. Other causes are clutch plates sticking on gearbox spline, faulty plates, clutch pedal fault, release arm bearing.
To test, release cable at release arm, and push release arm. Does it move smoothly? Do same with pedal. I suspect its your cable sticking.

Andy.

Re: sticking clutch pedal.

This was happening to me for a year. Infact, the bottom of pedal was wedging itself in the floormat. Ridiculous I know, but wasn't immediatley apparent...

Re: sticking clutch pedal.

Thanks for the info Sumplug, but the problem is Besbie's.

My Tipo was made/assembled in Holland and the clutch is cable operated, I think it's a 92 model and has no problems at the mo.

Jonti has come up with the most obvious answer, but as Besbie has inspected the pedal area and given it the WD treatment, I imagine he might have noticed carpet interference.

Re: sticking clutch pedal.

The front edge of the pedal pad touches the floor at a 45 degree angle when depressed and this was when it got wedged in the rubber mat mouldings. Always happend as the traffic lights went green with 20 cars behind me wondering why A) I'm not moving B) I'm grasping the clutch pedal with my hands. These circumstances tended to prevent a calm reflection of what was really happening. The location of the floormat is now regularly reviewed.

Re: sticking clutch pedal.

Hydraulic clutch has a slave cylinder on the release arm, and a master cylinder attached to the clutch pedal. Either could be at fault, and indeed, have had both leak and do the sticking pedal syndrome.

Andy.

maybe the cable is leaking

Sounds like a frayed or rusting cable sticking in the sheath as often happens on centos.

Re: sticking clutch pedal.

its still happening. sometimes its not a problem, other times it sticks every time. its definitely a hydaulic clutch. i was just wondering if you can get airlocks in the hoses? as the resovoir was empty pretty much not long before xmas. though the problem didn't start then. i think i might get someone to have a lookey at it. which could cost me a few cans of beer lol.

Re: sticking clutch pedal.

this is gay. acording to the fiat eper on http://www.spangerum.com:7080/navi?C...D=1&GUI_LANG=3
my car has a clutch with a cable yet i'm fairly certain that it has a hydraulic clutch. surely fiat would have it right? but it appears not. though i still reckon it is down to just lubrication of the pedal, as it is not a regular problem. but if it persists hopefully it will be a cheap fix, please if someone else has a different system to this please say now
