Yeah... So after ordering my new easy plus white tipo hatchback 3 weeks ago, that feeling of excitement was replaced with confusion.. Then doubt... Then anger... And now finally distress as the fiat dealer finally plucked up the balls to tell me my car had already been sold to someone else. Looking at the track record over the past 3 weeks of them actively trying to avoid calling me back time and time again, giving me none descript answers when i did manage to speak to someone.. And the general delaying tactics over these past 3 weeks, I'm guessing that they realised their goof somewhere near the start of the 3 weeks and have been trying to find a car since. The 'fix' was free metallic paint... Though tbh i don't really like any of the other colour options so anything else would feel like lesser car ? I'm starting to think I'm just going to have to cancel . :(

That really is rubbish. I'm surprised there aren't other Tipo's out there which match your chosen spec that the dealer could get hold-of for you. However, as they seem to be useless, are there any other dealers nearby you could try? There are nearly 200 Tipo's on AutoTrader at a variety of dealers across the Country, so I'm sure you could get a decent deal on one from there, possibly in white, possibly in another colour. I personally think the dark grey, silver and navy blue also look pretty decent. (y)

It will happen occasionally, that two customers decide on the same car at the same time. Both salesmen see a car available, but do not reserve it as the sale seems immediate. Then the fist one to actually mark it as sold gets it, the other is disappointed.

The crime here is in not being upfront and honest straight away. If they had called you that same day and explained, and advised they were searching the dealer network for another you would be more likely to accept the situation, remaining just a little cross.

The dealer needs to act quickly, as each day spent searching for a stock vehicle delays the ordering of a factory car specifically for you.

Questions for you to ask them now are:
Have they now ordered one from factory? If not, why not, and when will this happen?
How long will it take?
How are they going to compensate for the delay and poor communication? Get the offer in writing.

Cancelling and going elsewhere adds another delay. Whatever dealer orders a factory build will take the same time, dealing with one further away brings different issues. Searching dealers yourself will take a long time, and most likely be fruitless. All stock will be listed on a computer, so your dealer can see where any are of the correct spec., so only calling those dealers. They can also call Fiat UK to see if any of the correct spec are due as stock vehicles, not sold vehicles. You phoning at random will not get a better result, unless by chance whoever you call has just had a sale cancelled so the car has become available.

Go back, be firm, make the salesman squirm, see what you can get as a sweetener. Accessories, servicing, full valet three times a year, etc.

Not to mention that if first registration is delayed beyond the end of this month, your car tax is likely to be higher.

Might be solved.. upgraded to lounge for a tiny amount more after 'apparently' fiat and the dealer subsidising most of the extra bill... Tbh i wanted the lounge in the first place as i prefer the interior but mostly the wheels, so happy with the compromise. I'm not foolish enough to think I'm getting one over on the dealer, I'm sure it's not anything more than the dealer was comfortable parting with in the first place, but if i get a better car out of it cheaper than originally then I'm happy.

Some honour there then. Good to hear this.

majorj0nny... It wasn't Arnold Clark was it? I bought my new Tipo last march and have been delighted with it. At Christmas the rear washer only trickled water. Arnold Clark Rutherglen Glasgow told me that it wasn't a problem, that the hose had frozen and dislodged. I brought the car in for the warranty repair only for them to keep me an hour and 15 mins and then come out, waving internet printed washer assembly on 3 A4 sheets, and tell me they couldn't fix it as they weren't qualified and I should Google my nearest Fiat approved Bodyshop. Also they've left things dangling including the hose, with water streaming into the boot if I'd used the washer. They are trying to say the washer system can only be accessed by the removal of the roof spoiler, then Re Bonded (taking 5 days) No one wants to know and I can't touch it myself as they're dying to tell me the warranty is voided. It is ,as yet, not fixed, and I await an inspection from another Fiat Dealer
