£110 for the gearbox. I think it still has the rear mount on aswell and slave cylinder etc

It's a mk2 gearbox btw. They do fit the mk1 though

It would be cheaper to get a mk1 gearbox but for mk2 it's cheap!

well called in today at my local garage did,nt take car and asked them and all they said was engine is knackered without even looking at it tho the car does start and will drive a little bit but feels rough wen moving, my local garage is a bag of poo not going there again,

can anyone tell me if bigbore`s fail mot cos they said cos my bmw got twin savage bigbore on it and its loud that it will fail mot ( not that its due for mot til next year ?

i know this is a long shot but if anyone as a mk1 punto for sale for spares i,d happily pay £120 for it tops must live local to barnsley though as no trailer :-(

If the engine turns over fine with the clutch in (as you have previously mentioned it does), then the problem is very likely to be gearbox related only; saying the engine is knackered is a bit harsh considering they didn't look at it.

Regarding the MOT for big bore exhaust

Reason for rejection
b. a silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a silencer in average condition.

It's down to the tester, but if it's stupidly loud then it will likely fail. A small sidenote; if the police pull you over for said exhaust they can make you take your car to a garage for an exhaust/noise check, you have to get a stamp on the slip they give you and take it to the station. It is worth keeping an old backbox lying about for both these reasons if it is excessively loud as you can just swap it back after the MOT or this other test.

thanks for the info st60sx much appreciated , i,ve just decided to go for the gearbox will probs be a couple of weeks before i can get one but will keep you informed, and thank you everyone for all your help .

im only used to fords and vauxhalls mainly escorts and astras lol

Are you getting the one from Bredsticz? £110 is good money for a known working box. Better than taking a chance with something cheaper, especially considering the labour involved

not sure at mo there is one for £65 from mk1 on ebay with low milage with 3 months warranty if they have gone them i might do
