Quick question, how much would it cost for a recon gearbox to be brought and fitted?

Need a new gearbox but money's an issue at the moment, car is still drivable but jumps out of 2nd gear.

A recon one: a lot of money -- a good one from a scrapper, less than 200 for the box, DIY fitting or maybe £100 at a back streeet clutch place. It makes sense to replace the clutch at the same time -- maybe 50 from eBay or a factor.

cant give recon prices but cost me £150 labour for the vectra box fitment.
if moneys tight then get a 2nd hand one.
there good boxes generally as they can handle £100+bhp and the torque of a turbo.
albeit with a shorter life

They handle power increases because its industry standard that gearbox's are built with a factor of 2.5 of the engine power, some even factor 3, so if same gearbox is found in a 60bhp Punto then the factor of 2.5 means it can handle 150bhp.

The only reason for them breaking is normally lack of changing gearbox oil, or not checking the level and letting it run low, or in general just abusing it mercilessly.

And after a while the bearings die But with normal use it should run without problems.
