Is replacing the lock barrels only, any less invasive than replacing the entire lock assembly? I assume I’d have to remove the door cards either way? This is for a 1996 4x4 Country Club with power windows.

No specific knowledge about your model, but generally easiest with door handle/lock assembly off the vehicle, although some can be done in situ.
Usually a C clip or a pin that requires pushing in when key is in a certain position in barrel of lock.
If you look at a new lock barrels it should be easy to see, often once the C clip or pin depressed with key in all the wards spring out of the way allowing barrel to be removed.
Things like steering locks often have a hole on the side of the assembly that you push a drill bit or similar in against spring tension and then with key in only one position the barrel will come free.

Thank you. 1996 4x4 Country Club.
