I fixed a towbar and there is a useable grommit you can utilise. I made an additional hole, poked my wires through and added some silicon after to ensure its water tight. Its not going to cause you any trouble.

Latest type ones, working on microwaves, don’t necessitate drilling holes.
They’re not really a new idea as we were fitting microwave sensors to cabriolets and the X19 alarm systems

@jrwestham it's been a while but can you please share the fitting instructions from which you uploaded the initial photo? Also can you please specify which the correct red wire was?
