Technical Oil pressure indicator going on while pressing clutch pedal

Dear all, in my (so far futile) quest for a well-preserved Mk1 1,6 16 V Multipla, I came across one which (supposedly) switches on oil pressure warning light when you push clutch pedal to change a gear.
The car is held to ransom by pirates trying to sell the current owner a complete engine overhaul/clutch change.
Any ideas are very much appreciated.

Sounds like something to do with clutch is shorting oil pressure electrical wire to body.
Or if there is a switch on the clutch pedal perhaps that is affecting oil pressure warning.

That's a good un. I can only think it has to be electrical
