Hi All,
I'm hoping you can help me.
I have a 2000 fiat marea 1.9td, and just won't start.
A little history, just to let you know how things happened.
The car has been laid up for awhile, about 2 months.
I put a fresh battery on and went to start it, and after about 3 attempts, it kicked into life. Delighted!!!
I popped downtown to get some bits (cigs), and when I got back the engine had stopped.
Thats where I am right now.
So I went about trying to find the fault.
Checked for fuel. OK
Checked the fuel filter for fuel. OK
Loosened the fuel lines to the injectors, and again OK
While cranking the engine, I tightened the fuel lines going to the injectors.
Looked at fuel lines for any leaks and so on, but all seems OK
The engine itself has a common rail, where the pump feeds fuel into it and then onto the injectors under pressure.
But still the car won't start.
Then I started to think..........under pressure???
When I cranked the engine while tightening the fuel lines to the injectors, there was no pressure. There was fuel, but no visible pressure.
Question 1. Should there be pressure present while cranking the engine?
I believe there is a pressure sensor attatched to the rail.
Question 2. Would the pressure sensor be faulty?
We towed the car, but no use.
Question 3. What would make the car stop? Bearing in mind, the car had been going for 20 minutes before hand, and didn't skip a beat.
Question 4. Is there an electric pump for the fuel? Like you have on petrol models. I really don't know. If yes, where is it located?
I'm puzzled, but haven't given up.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Hope you read this thread.
Thanks a million. John.

I know this isn't the help you wan't, but have you tried the car again since?

Maybe its something associated to operations after its warmed up??
