2. They know how to do it and I don't

A giant ship engine failed. The ship's owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure out how to fix the engine.

Then they brought in an old man in his eighties who had been fixing ships since he was a young man. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully from top to bottom.

Two of the ship's owners were there watching this man and hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed!

A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars.

"What?!" the owners exclaimed. "He hardly did anything!"

So they wrote the old man a note saying, "Please send us an itemized bill."

The man sent a bill that read:

Tapping with a hammer...... ......... $ 2.00

Knowing where to tap.......... ......... $ 9,998.00

How are you getting on with this, i have a complete lock set and Ecu etc, but its from a sporting model.................... just a thought..................

Thanks very much for the kind replies to help. Replacing the parts suggested might well be the wisest solution, but I just don't have the time or expertise. As it turns out, a family member is our car insurance agent, and he thought my policy might include this coverage. He found that it does in fact cover it (up to £300), no excess and no affect on my no claim bonus. I lucked out on this one.

This is a great forum with people who really want to help. My thanks to all who replied. I will be back often. With all the issues I had with this little car, maybe I will be able to help someone else.
