Hi guys, I know this has been covered to some degree previously in other threads but just want to make sure before I buy. I currently have 4 x 195/55/15's on my HGT. This is standard fitment along with the size 205/50. My two front tyres are knackered and need replacing. Can I use 195/50/15 instead for the fronts with the original rears? I want to use the lower profile 195/50 as they are cheaper and more available. Any advice appreciated. Cheers

Why not fit 205/50/15 i didnt find them too expensive for Toyo Proxies when i did mine, only done 2 so far as that was all that was needing done. You get much better grip going into corrners, i've played about with 195, 205 and even 185 14" steelies on the back, and 195 and 205 on the front.

I would prefer to have 205's all round, but only got them on the rear at the moment, and there wearing very well. Just want to get them on the front now too, this wk i should have a spare set of HGT mk2 alloys, so i'll swap some about.

Also remember the difference that translates to your speedo:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html 1-2% is fine i prefer if the speedo over reads!

I did look into the 205/50's but they were no cheaper as far as I could tell. For example, with Etyres.com a Pirelli P6000 costs; 195/50 - £46.90, 195/55 - £65.90, 205/50 - £76.90. Did i mention that I'm a cheapskate and wanted the cheapest? :D So u reckon the car will be fine with the 195/50's on the front?

yes it will be fine. i have 195/50s and it is much happier than it was.
you can get decent tyres for £40-45 each (fitted) at almost any tyre place. nankang, federal, accelera and kumho all do budget direcitonal sport tyres at this price. i currently have kumho ecsta spt on the front and i highly recommened them.

I only paid £42 + £8 fitting for my proxies.

Also if your a cheapskate then no point looking at P6000's.

Mytyres only £30.90 for 195/50/15 Proxies.

Ohh and Hellcat thats why i have winter tyres.. :D Although tend not to throw the car into a corner in the wet/snow/mud ;)

that site is based on consumer written reviews rather than actual tests. :)

Yup just as I like it, and use Babelfish if you want to translate any of the usualy german comments. Very usefull and unbiased, you can usually tell when someone doesnt like the tyres and gives them really bad results (later to find there tracking was way way out...)(y)
