How much do you want to spend? You can take a standard 220Hp coupe up to around 300Hp without vast expense. Remap / Hybrid turbo / G1 chip etc. Beyond that you start to get into serious money.
Top whack for a 20VT seems to be around 700Hp (some claim 1000 but they animal hasn't yet been seen in the flesh beyond dodgy youtube vids).

16v. needs a little tlc before any mapping is done. but will look into it. only had it for couple days an radiator has already blown. new clutch an cam belt will be one of the first things that'll be getting done!!
tipo mk1 16v cam (forget which one think it's inlet), upped boost, chipped/mapped, Free flowing exhaust (it's only the 20v which has turbo problems with decat isn't it?), free flowing filter. i have no experience with these but these would be the ones i'd start with.
