Punto (Mk1) failing to accelarate boosts but backfires blowing off boost pipes etc

Try adding the car model, year, fuel type, age... unless its a 1994 Punto GT of course lol...
But add anything that could assist anyone who may be able to help.

Initially I'd suggest checking valve condition & valve timing, sounds to me like a valve may be partially open or even damaged allowing the detonating mixture to blow back.

If you can't fix it, take it to someone who can. It won't cure itself and can only get worse/cause more damage.

Did you:

do a blink test
check the timing
do a compression test


If none of the above, what kind of miracle are you waiting for?

i aint had the time ive jus bought a new air flow metre and ht leads bookin car in for thu compression test im gunna do blink test tonight

hope you bought a genuine AFM as the copy ones are crap and cause more problems than there worth.

lampy is referring to cheap copies, the oem one is bosch and expensive! a cheap one may help rule out the AFM though.
