Hi Guys

Well here is my story. Are you sitting comfortably? Then we shall begin.
There I was wandering around looking for a new car for the wife's new business (childminder) when there it was, shining like a bright star, a Fiat 2.2JTD Ulysse Eleganza on a 53 plate , fully loaded with all the kit. A quick test drive, the wife was now in love, a price was hagled and my beloved Nissan X-Trail was part exchanged and off we went. It was like a death in the family for me. My X-trail have never missed a beat in 5 full years of ownership. We visited the good old DVLA on the way home in Leeds to have the private number plate exchange, then a quick blast down the motorway and home.
Unfortunately, the quick blast became a slow, rather frightening limp when 2 miles from home on came the ecu management light and off went the power:eek:. And so it began.
Car instantaneously returned to dealers the next day following a rather fraut phone call. "Oh yes we get this all the time, its because its been stood for a while" I was told. Regrettably, in the time it took me to get the car back to the dealers, my beloved X-trail had been sold:cry:.
The car was sent to a local specialist the same day, I took to this forum and wondered what on earth I had done in buying this car having looked at all the posts on this problem. The specialist put the car on the computer which brought up a turbo overboost problem, the specialist didn't believe this so the ecu was updated and the FAP filter regenerated. It was then returned to me the next day with the comment "we are 99% sure that its fixed".
So did I believe them. Having read the threads on the forum..................no. 32 miles later and on came the light again and off went the power again.
This time their was no phone call to the dealer. I turned up with the car (the look on their faces was fantastic), I gave them the key and held out my hand for the key to the loan car I had had previously. I never said a word.
That was a week ago. So where are we now.
One completely new turbo later which has cost some #1200.00 - which the dealer has paid for:D. The specialist this time put the car back on the computer and with the parameters it gave spoke to Peugeot who said that they were 99.9% sure the turbo was the problem - problem appeared to have still been something to do with a turbo over boost or overrun.
Anyway, am picking the car up again this morning and we shall see. Do I believe its fixed......................mmmm...............no...........but am hoping to god that it is:confused:. Anyway, I will keep everyone informed as to how it goes.

It was never going to be the turbo at fault!

I'm a bit confused here, you got the car frrom a dealer who gave it to a specialist to fix:confused: I take it by dealer you mean non-Fiat garage?

How was the ECU software updated and FAP 'regenerated'?

Chances are your problem is with vacuum pipe or vacuum solenoid.

Hi

Sorry, you are right, when I said dealer, I meant a non franchised 2nd hand car sales place.
To be fair to them, they have never complained about repairing the car and have got on with it but at the start and having looked through this forum, I did try to tell them to start looking at the smaller stuff first before replacing anything major but I get the impression that they thought I was interfering and didn't know what I was talking about. It was their specialist who went to Peugeot with the parameters that the computer had come up with and it was Peugeot that said they were 99.9% sure it was the turbo.
I have had the opportunity of talking with the original owner of the car who said he had had the problem intermittently whilst he owned the car and that he had thrown money at it but was unable to fix it. So he got rid of it.
Anyway, its not my problem anymore. Have bought another car. Have gone back to Japanese and a petrol engine. Think I will be staying away from diesels for some time. I think they have become far too complicated with the emissions business.
Its a shame as I really liked the car and wanted to take to my guys down the road who fix my cars if required but the wife was going berserk and had lost all confidence it the car so my hands were tied. Don't think I will be going near french cars again.
All the best guys:)

Just thank your lucky stars you managed to get out of the deal and get your money back. About a year ago I bought a Renault Scenic diesel which started giving trouble within a fortnight. The trader I bought it of , 100 miles away, took it back to have it looked at, but because of severe artic conditions, similar to now in fact, it ran into 3 weeks, after which he offered me a full refund, which I gladly accepted. I took the money and bought a Fiat Ulysse, the rest is history!!! How I often wish he had perservered, and returned the Scenic to me!! Best wishes with your new car, and a merry Christmas to all the Fiat Forum members.
