Just build up a 1242 and paint the block matt black, leave the head and chrome other odds n sods

I'd just give it a cheap tidy up, let's face it you've spent 12K on it, therefore at least 12x what it's worth in sale value, so why bother anymore?

yeah see thats what im thinking, my 1108 got a good cleaning n sprayed mat black for the judging @ donny and it looked ok. , could just put a nice clean 1242 in. clean header tank, nice induction piping, n maybe a nice manifold.

Has it got any engine mods at all?

If not just do the 1108 mods i.e. induction, TB etc for the time being, then when you both have a bit more money think about a change

Yep build, a shiny lovely rapid engine and box, then when you're ready to swap it get the empty engine bay painted to match the stunning outside.
IMHO the germans have got it right with everything polished, de-cluttered with the wiring all hidden. You know it makes sense.
