Technical Ducato Fuel Filter

Hi there I have just purchased a 2007 Fiat Ducato Motorhome. Decided to do a Service and i see there are a few issues with the Green Top fuel Filter housing. So I have removed and bought a new UFI one.I will rebuild the old one with proper tool and keep as a spare. Question is when re fitting do you need to get fuel into housing or can you fit dry and let pump fill etc do you get air locks or air in system.
