Haven't needed to ask much about the car recently, so sod's law is something has to start going funny  Anyway, the car's starting to smell of burning after around 20minutes of driving, it's a sort of rubbery smell but not too sure what it could be. The gears are getting a bit ropey but the clutch pedal could do with being adjusted and the gearbox mount is fubar anyway. So maybe the alternator or just the alternator belt? It's getting some hammer with all this winter driving and the belt does squeal when it's wet or has been sat in the wet or cold for a few hours.

Any guesses much appreciated :)

It's on fire?:D
Seriously though, have you had a look under it to see if there's a carrier bag or the remains of one wrapped round the front half of the exhaust?
I've had that happen before and could only smell it after it had been running for about quarter of an hour.
