Hi I have just bought a 1999 T reg Punto and have been out checking it all over and getting to know it. I have noticed by the passenger seat there is a kind of pump button with a fuel symbol on it. It does not open the fuel cap cover so I wanted to know if anyone could tell me please!

Thanks

Hi carl welcome to the forum

It sounds very much like its the Inertia switch reset..

(emergency switch which switches the Fuel injection pump off if the car is involved in a big enough crash or impact, It stops the pump from pumping fuel in case the engine or fuel lines are damaged reducing the risk and severity of any subsequent fire...

It can be also set off if you say hit a speed bump hard enough or a uneven bit of road ((very rare for this to happen though)

There is a dedicated punto section on the forum here:

https://www.fiatforum.com/punto/

you can also download a manual for the car if you havent got one from here:

also the guides section might be of interest

Hi, Welcome to the Fiat Forum.

I can assure you that it is most definitely the fuel cut off, reset button.

Round, grey button next to passenger seat, flush with floor.

I had an issue early on with my Punto 55SX. (actually bought for my son - but that another story). Darn thing refused to go. I went on an exaustive trip around the vehicles systems trying to work out what the heck was going on.

The fuel relay is under the bonnet, mounted on the bulkhead, behind the battery. The grey button you mention is used to reset the fuel cut-off in the event of a front end bump.

Hope this helps.

yes, it's the fuel cut off switch
U can however not push it, accordingly to my manual, if the switch is activated, the button would pop up

Thanks Simples for that I was just curious, Well if I have a problem I know what to do!!!

Also if I had a car manual I would look in it to answer my own question and not waste my valuable time on here but thanks for the tip Wilko, Your wasted talent on here!!!

Does anyone know if its possible to put a bigger throttle body from other Fiat cars onto my 1242 cc??? Did it on my polo a few years back and it worked really well...

Pretty sure this wont be mentioned in the manual which I do not have.......
