surely fiat would of seen the counter rotating shafts as good, leading to the smoother engine charecteristic as something to keep despite it's loss of power..

never heard of this before, perhaps Mike knows if this really was the case or if someone is misinformed?

car seems alright, just a bit too red, and is missing two doors!

Abarth specification? There never was an Abarth Tipo.

He doesn't mention anything unusual - twin counter-roating balancer shafts are the standard for the Sedicivalvoles. I've never heard of these 100 end of line Tipos. I wouldn't be suprised if they did a few specials at the end, but I've not seen anything anywhere.

I've never heard of any 100 end line Tipo's either,All tho i did buy a blue 3 dr Sedi (with lovely interior lol) from scottland last year & that was very simular to this red one. . . .fully colour coded, different wipers, yellow lining on the bumpers/skirts instead ov red, after market alloys with yellow abarth center caps to match,& i asked who did the mods . . . He said it was like that when he purchased it from the main dealer new etc

The chap with the red one is on about the cam shafts,Not the balancer shafts i think ? ?

the guy is talking tosh and maybe doesnt know any better. There were numerous specials done by dealers with the common theme of painted bumpers, not doubt all were done to clear the cars at a time when the astra GSI and RS2000 looked far more up to date with full colour coding. Collect from spain year right, reserve not met at 350 sounds very hopeful. Think I might inform him the balancers are in block not the head.

Maybe it's gone bang in a big way and now the balancer shafts are in the head? :)

Edit: Didn't they sell the Tipo all the way upto N reg? Think the father in law's Sedici is N reg, it was sold on a private plate so I'm not certain.

Really? I always assumed it was a single shaft.. cant say I`ve ever stripped mine down to find out!

Has anyone run one without them connected? if so, how unbalanced was it?
there is a kit you can buy so you can remove the balancer shafts, i've been told that you cant buy some of the bearings on the balancer shafts anymore so if the bearings go and you have to remove them anyway.
heres link to kit

Yes they did Rob. . . . The blue one i had was N Reg. But it was a total rot box (the worst one i've ever had!) so i stripped it last month,Lovely running engine tho.

Hello everyone,

I saw the advert - car looks nice.

I agree with Rich and Gary (hello Chaps - hav'nt spoken in ages!!) a number of the late 3 doors where treated to "dealer paintjobs" and yes N reg was the last.

I don't see anything special about this car - curtainly nothing that would make me want to drive to Spain!!

From time to time people make claims about the "Abarth Tipo" but there were none. I think Fiat missed a trick by not badging the Sedici as such from day one as it would have made a nice follow on from the 125 Ritmo and the 130 Strada Abarths........Oh well we can dream!!

CHEERS MIKE

You know they wouldn't have to try hard back then to get about 160/170 bhp then code the bumpers etc to make it a proper abarth which would have set it above the escort and the astra.

Anyway yes 2 balancers not much diameter on the shafts so moment inertia quite low meaning reving more freely not really noticable. Why did they fit them - PR I reckon 2l engine didn't need them. Don't know anyone who had them fixed noticed any difference. Removing them saves a bit of weight though.
