General 1.9 JTD warm-up time

Hi,

Can anyone with 1.9 JTD Marea tell me how much time does it need for engine to reach middle notch on the temp gauge?
Let's say that you start the car (no warm up) and then drive on the open road in 5th gear at 2000 RPM, external temperature is about 0C. Heater on.

What would you say, how many miles would you have to go before temp is in the middle?

5-10min but would be quicker uphill don't forget your travelling at 60mph

Yes, it takes about 10 minutes to reach the middle notch (in fact it is a bit below the middle notch).

Regarding RPM, until the engine gets warm, I shift at 2500 (except uphill) and drive at 2000 RPM.

I had much smaller car before marea (1100ccm) and it could warm up in 3-5 minutes. That's why I taught bigger engine would warm up quicker, but obviously, this is not the case

It's slow, all common rail diesels without aux heaters are.

Because they are much more efficient than indirect injection diesels, or petrol cars.

Don't forget there is more mass in a big diesel engine to bring up to temperature. The 2.4 takes even longer than the 1.9JTD

Yep, and also why most if not all BMW diesels etc. have aux heaters, whilst I freeze my ass off for 15 minutes in the morning.

Alfa diesels have electric heaters too.. Massive drain on the battery and altenator system though.

Get yourself some heated seats if your ass is cold Oh and be thankful you don't have leather
