Hi again all

My 93 Tempra 1.6 i.e engine with Bosch Motronic SPI has an electrical problem.

The fuel pump is not priming when the ignition is turned on. I have recently replaced the fuel pump as I had a problem which i suspected was the pump but was a worn TPS.

Since fixing the TPS and fitting the new pump the problem has got worse and I now have no priming of the fuel pump whatever I do.

The strange thing is that recently after replacing the throttle body to fix bad Throttle Position Sensor I went on a test drive. After a few hundred yards at the end of 2nd gear the engine died and would not restart. The fuel pump was working but the fuel injector was dead.

I swapped the injector and fuel pump relays and it started straight away. The next day the fuel pump would not start again. I suspected the relays and have replaced them with no improvement. I have checked the relay connections and they seem fine. Earths are good although i need to re-check the fuel pump earth. I have check the fuel pressure regulator which looks ok?

The fuel pump is working with 12v applied. The relays seem to be working but I have no power at the fuel pump fuse?

What makes the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on? Is it the ECU informed by the fuel pressure or is it just a two second timing from the ECU?

My wiring colours are not the same as the diagrams in the Porter manual...

:bang:

I think I have sorted it...

I had replaced the relays for the fuel pump and fuel injector as one of them seemed to be 'tempra'mental. Only I think I must have bought the incorrect relays. Got a pair of grey 20A relays from a Fiat Cinq and it currently all works as it should.

Watch this space...

The correct relays have two pins activated rather than one. So the car has two relays instead of four. Clever design?
