Well it's been a while since i've been on on the Fiat Forum with my now sold Marea but now I'm back with my Tempra rally car! In September 2011 I'm taking part in THe Crumball Rally which is a banger rally for cars costing less than £250. For us it's a 5 day 2500 mile trip across Europe and back. :slayer:

I managed to pick up my 1996 Fiat Tempra 1.6ie on ebay for £180 with 12 months mot. She's covered 78,000 and really suprised me on the 200 mile journey home. She's comfortable, fairly quick for a 1.6 and drives nicely.

Are there any issues I should be looking out for and how easy is the timing belt to change?

Hello there! I'm the administrator of the Fiat Tempra fan page! I've just found your Tempra on the internet and read about your incredible journey!!! I'd really love to read and know more about your Tempra and your adventure with the rally!!!

Cheers,
Gabriele

Hello, just found this;

Now that i've finished the Crumball Rally the Mrs has said that the 96 Tempra 1.6ie S has to go.....it covered the 2500 miles in 5 days faultlessly and even returned 510 miles to a tank on the Autobahn.

I have tried to sell the car everywhere but it appears that nobody wants to buy a Tempra. It has an MOT until 29th Feb 2012 and the only things wrong with it are the clutch is sharp and it needs a tyre although you could drive it on the spare spacesaver. THe decals have taken the laquer off the paint so looks a little sorry for itself.

If I don't sell it by the end of the week then it's going to scrap which would be a shame as it would be a good cheap runaround or a source of spares for your Tempra. See my for sale thread for pics

Make me an offer, would rather sell it to a caring owner!!

So do you still have the Tempra?????? Let me know!!!!!!

Sorry if I am so insistent, but there are less than 120 RHD Tempra's left, so it's important to take care of them!!! Please, contact me at [email protected] , I might help you save this one!!!

Thank you!

Too late.

I would have had them wheels, sure lots of the cento people would have loved them.. :(

sad day when any car gets scrapped, let alone something so rare nowadays
I kept the wheels, took them off as he lifted it with the fork lift at the yard.

It it is a shame, especially as it was rust free, was still driving & everything still worked fine. 18 years of great service. A genuinely great car. RIP.

I hope the red Tempra found a good home... it looks like an interesting one.

The engine on the last facelifted models seems to be an improved 1.6 with MPI like the Punto Sporting of that era... check the photo. Must be a big improvement on the asthmatic SPI fitment that Tiops and earlier Tempras had... hardly any extra power from a 1.6 compared to a 1.4.

No wonder the OP said it seemed to drive very well.
