Hi

my father got a tempra 1.6 i.e. cat, and it doesn't idle very well, but it has it's ups and downs, and sometimes it just dies out, for no reason, doesn't matter how long the engine has been running. I think it could be bad connection to the injection.

any ideas?

Sounds like the idle valve or air flow meter needs cleaning out but it could also be dirty fuel injectors.

I`m not sure where the idle valve is on the 1.6 though.

Thanks a73UK
I think there maybe be dirt too, since the car has gone 280000km (or about 175000 miles), and I don't really know too much in that area:p

but wanted to hear if someone had an explanation;), so the work could be done in a better way

If the Tempra is the same as the Tipo then things are fairly simple.

SPI (Single Point Injection) setup. Almost the same as a traditional carburretor setup. There will be a "body" on the manifold intake side that resembles a tradition carburrretor. There is a solenoid style actuator that directly operates on the butterfly throttle plate at the base of the injection unit.

A first starting point id to:

1) clean linkages / area
2) lubricate and check throttle plate for smooth, easy and non stick motion
3) clean/lubricate solenoid mechanism
4) run engine and check device operations. This will/may require an assistant

thanks Nick

I'm sure that if the tipo had an 1.6 engine with injection, there is not much difference, so I'll take a look, (maybe some pictures) and check it.

we have also changed the distributor cap and the rotor (if you know what I mean) and then it got a little better for a while:confused:

your problem is the idle motor or stepper ... trust me

Try to find used one, new are not so cheap, especialy if something else is wrong.

I would replace whole throttle body taken from a car with low km-s

well, I have found a tipo, the unit looks the same, so we are going to try that one out. got it free of charge(y)
