Fiat Brava needs help

Hi there,

I have a 2000 Fiat Brava which has stood in the garage since February and now won't start. Also, the key (actually the master key) will not come out of the ignition. It is absolutely dead. No lights, no sound. I recharged the battery but still dead. So I have ordered delivery of a new battery.

I hope the new battery will solve all problems. I'd like to make sure that the cables are also in good condition but I don't have the time or expertise to change them. Right by the connection post the wire is bent and the rubber tubing is broken, exposing wires. Can I use normal insulation tape to cover the exposed wire? Or is there another kind of fix to protect the wiring and ensure that shorting or other problems cannot occur?

Very grateful for suggestions. Thanks for reading.

Re: Fiat Brava needs help

Hi, and welcome to FF,

if sat for long periods the battery does get a hard time,

cracked insulation on cables does happen,
there is a chance the cable is damaged internally.., but atting a couple of turns of electrical insulation tape will certainly do no further harm,

why has it been parked-up..?
a problem with it.. or just other commitments meaning it wasn't going to be used..??
