hello guys,
I'm going to overhauling my Seicento, And I have to take off the cam cover (it needs gasket change).
I'm pretty sure that I will have to change the size of one or two shims......

Do you have ever built/put together something that can improve the "push-down- the-bucket-thing-while-you-extract-the shim" task?
Something between the fiat special tool and the use of two or three screwdrivers??

Thanks.

Personally I would try and source to original Fiat tool or OEM equivalent.

Even with the correct tool shim extraction is a very fiddly and tight space below the back of the cam lobe.

If either during shim extraction or after the cam follower bucket springs back up then your are "interesting" times. Both the followers and shims are hardened. Damaging the follower shim retaining wall or the shim will be an issues.

Tow tips.

1) Rotate the follower till the wall slot is where you want it. Now gently blow air into the slow. This will disperse the oil trapped between the bottom of the shim and the top surface of the follower. Doing this will allow much easier extraction of the shim.

2) Measure all current gaps. For shims you replace make a not of the size of the shim you put in to achieve the correct clearance. Doing so will make like a lot easier next time round as with a new measured gap and a known shim size then you can obtain the new required shim before actual replacement.
