Evening All.
We have a 1.2 Panda which isn't selecting 4th,well it makes lots of grinding noises! However when changing down the gears, it will stay in 4th! Touch the throttle and it jumps out!

A search on a very active Facebook group relating to Pandas explains its a box out job rather than a easy fix.

Is there a recommended Fiat gearbox specialist? I can remove the gearbox but will need to give it to someone more knowledgeable to fix!

hi, :)
what age is said panda, and what mileage has it covered,

they CAN give trouble at higher mileages..
if it's done lots of work, I'd just fit a low mileage replacemnt unit.;)

Would help if I supplied all the info! 2004 1.2(i think) petrol, just clicked over 60k......which to me doesn't seem alot but it is 13years old! And my wife has been driving it!!!

Such issues could be a symptom of the nut on the end of the mainshaft coming loose. It may be possible to remove the end cover to check, but if it is loose, just tightening it will probably not be enough, as damage will have been done.

They are simple gearboxes if you wish to strip it yourself on the bench!
There is a Punto specialist in Cheshire I think who sells gearboxes on Ebay as well as his own website. Been doing it for quite a few years, so can't be too bad. I think he does, or will do Panda ones too.

60k is nothing..

Same as the mk2 punto..many cover 150k

On such a low miles car..I would fit a low miles replacement.

Not paying labour is perfect..!!
