Hello all
Just a little advice please.
Our car has just been into the garage as the drivers window stopped working. They called to say that it wasn't the motor which is covered by warranty. So they would need to charge us an hours labour to diagnose it. We have the go ahead. They then rang on Monday to say that the fault was the switch. Which was going to be £60 +the £85 labour to diagnose. They kindly said that they wouldn't charge to replace the switch. Too right I thought. I told them not to fit the switch and I would come and get the car. I bought a new switch and fitted it. And lo and behold it still doesn't work. So I set about checking. They had kindly left the wires to the motor bare. I check voltage at main wire 12.5v then the up wire with the switch operated 10.5v and the same for the down wire.i then used a jump wire to supply live to each wire. .. nothing. My car history is long and I have checked and diagnosed lots of faulty motors. This is telling me that the motor is dead. But I'm doubting myself. By the way I checked the same wires on the passenger side which is working. And get the same readings. Also both old and new switches give same results. Any thoughts? ? I smell a rat?

So just an update. I took the car back to the garage and they produced the new motor which they had originally fitted but removed because it didn't react so they then assumed it was the switch. I connected it to the cats wiring and it didn't work. They're going to bench test the new one. But I'm not hopeful. I returned home removed the motor and clipped the wiring from the passenger side onto it and it works. So although I'm getting voltage readings on the drivers side, they won't work the motor. I'm obviously missing something but what!

 poor connections - dodgy wires,

will supply voltage.., but not sufficient current to run a motor:eek:

check for damage where the door open and closes on the loom.;)

Picture of the plug to motor. Notice all the bared wires! ! Top brown wire becomes live when the pressing switch down. Thicker red and white is permanently live. Black is earth. Bottom brown and white becomes live on the up action. The black and red is live. Does anyone know what this wire is for? Cheers Neil

so who has butchered that..:bang:

I wouldn't like to say. But their name has the same initials as Air Conditioning.?

Maybe one of those wires has been poorly crimped or corroded or broken in the contact pin in that connector. Also check for bad earth, perhaps jump the black wire.

that's why somebody in the know would probe it at the pins(through the block)

I've seen a knife blade used to make a tiny knick in the insulation down to the core.the blade is then in contact and can be used with a meter probe on it..,

the damage in the picture is inexcusable(n):bang:

I had to crimp-up ( squeeze back together) the tube connector on my old tipo Window switch, one of the few electrical issues that iIve had to deal with on FIAT.. most is previous owner abuse / neglect

When I took it back to the garage. They tried to deny that they had bared the wires. But I pointed out that if they'd been bared like that for any length of time corrosion would have set in. I've tried jumping every wire not even a a flicker of life. Yet when I swapped the motor onto the opposite side wiring it ran perfect. I've checked voltage from the other side of the plug too. All the pins and connectors are clean and corrision free. I'm thinking/dreading that the problem is deeper into the wiring. I disconnected the multi pin at the door and all those pins etc are clean. I've called it a day for today as I'm back at work at 3:30 tomorrow. So it's all back together. Until I have some more inspiration. Thanks so far for the suggestions.

Keeping an eye on this one, my window I'd working intermittently, however if it sticks down, I can turn off the ignition, wait a while and then it sometimes works then.....

The other day it was down, (I'd stopped at a barrier to put ticket in) refused to go up, now getting wet! My daughter ( bless her ) suggested holding the key in the lock position and see if autoclose worked....it did! So I'm looking at replacing the switch.

Have you tried the auto open / auto close ?

Ken

Ps suggest you post this on the qubo part of the forum, not all qubo owners look here?

Excellent diagnostic tool there, (y)
the power is obviously getting there..but somehow is not "switching":(

possibly related to Body computer..that I believe drives loads of kit via CANBUS,

doing a reset / relearn with software may be worthwhile,

MultiECUScan to the rescue.:D again..

p.s. if Neilsmith had "tagged" Qubo in the heading of this thread..it would appear in the Qubo section in parallel..

Charlie,

I'll give my registered copy of multiecuscan a go when I get home from my holidays, have car, iffy window, on the continent.!

Don't have the laptop / adaptors cables with me.....

I think you are probably right, a software reset won't do,any harm.

I'll repost in the qubo section too. Thanks for that. Unsure how to tag on here do you use # . The auto close works but only on the good window. A similar thing happened with our car up in Scotland in a blizzard the drivers ensure came down and would not go up. Eventually it did after 20 minutes.
