Can anyone recommend an OBD2 reader for my Evo.
There is a bewildering number of plug-in readers on Ebay but which ones work with the EVO protocol
I already have a hand held reader and a plug-in bluetooth reader but neither work on my Evo
With so many around, to me its a minefield which one will actually read my Evo`s codes.
Dont want flashy hand held device, just a plugin bluetooth/usb reader for under a tenner

Can anyone recommend one they have experience of ?

Hi,
I've used MultiECUScan on a laptop,
the free version just costs you some leads,
and will do a fair bit of stuff, (y)

the product was so good, AND easy to use I then paid the 50 EURO for a full licence version - no issues, and have even helped with other peoples Italian car issues,
Charlie - Oxford

Its not the laptop end I am talking about, what plugs into the OBD socket
Thanks for your interest

You should buy a ELM 327 interface lead with ADAPTOR 3 (sometimes called a "yellow" adaptor).
There is a problem with many of the cheap ELM interface clones. There is a design fault that adds a 120 ohm resistor across the CAN bus pins. This should be removed for reliable operation. Check with a multimeter on ohms between pins 6 and 14 of the interace's OBD plug. If the resistance is under 200 ohms you need to modify the interface.
Your existing bluetooth adaptor may work OJ with a No.3 / Yellow adaptor lead, but I recomment a USB connection for reliability.

Thanks for that snippet, I will get out my multimeter

UPDATE:- You mention "You should buy a ELM 327 interface lead with ADAPTOR 3 (sometimes called a "yellow" adaptor)."

Having difficulty finding this, can you give me a URL where I can purchase or see this item

Regards

Forget about my ramble about where can I get the Adaptor 3 gizmo
Can I just get a diagnostic elm327 with a USB interface that will work

ie
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381340272225?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

No, that one will not work, its for older model Fiats.
For adaptor only see ebay item 271547983086 or 161755545049

For an adaptor and interface see ebay item 281712496622 This interface has had the resistor removed so will work OK.

I've no connection with either seller.

s130:- Ok I will give that a look

I now have a Yellow Fiat adaptor lead No3 which is supposed to assist in reading CAN fault codes with my bluetooth adaptor
Result :- total waste of time, didnt work
Laptop recognises adaptor but cannot read ECU

As I have lost the will to live playing with adaptors, laptops and Android phones, I am now considering a hand held reader which plugs straight into the Fiat diagnostic terminal

I have just been loaned a Maxiscan MS309 to play with:-
I can see that item on Ebay as well as a ProScanV350

Does anyone know if they are the same, or as we say in the sticks "same meat different gravy"

Hi,
Has your bluetooth adaptor been "modified" i.e. NO 120 ohm resistor between pins 6 and 14 when measured with a multimeter? This will also stop it working on some modules. What software did you try?
I don't know if that reader is any good, but it will not do as much as Multiecuscan or Alfa OBD will. If you are in Sudbury, do you ever come across to Cambridge? I'mjust off the A14 north west of Cambridge and would be happy to put my set-up on your car and try to sort out your interface woes.

Hi,

I'm looking for an OBD setup for a multijet 1.9 engine (Sedici 2007). The MultiECUScan software lists it as compatible.

Will the leads mentioned on this thread work for that? I guess its just a question of getting the correct lead. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
The interface (ELM 327) is OK but you need adaptor cable 1 (green) for the Sedici to access the ABS and power steering modules.
Ebay item 161786541453 or similar should do what you want, plus Multiecuscan or AlphaOBD of course. Try the free demo version first.
