My trusty Doblo 1.9 jtd 2003 has a issue ...it hates a roundabout near me..no joke this roundabout is down hill from both sides I would let the foot of the gas to idol down to it from both sides the last three days she has concked out engine management comes on and won't start for a few minutes.. I got fuel filter yesterday fitted it and still doing it ..she has now started doing this even when I take the foot of the gas anywhere.. She will go as normal on the road doing 70 80 without issue but as soon as I lift of the gas she just goes dead.. I have disconnected battery reconnected and away she goes... I've thought maybe fuel filter blocked pipe but why would she run as normal any other time doing 70 80 I've read the may be a part coked up or some valve not closing where And what are these parts ...sitting waiting for garage to open now...ive been sitting ticking over in her now for last 10 mins no issues. SOME HELP WOULD BE GREAT IF ANY ONES IUT THERE WITH A FIX..cant believe my wee Doblo letting me down

Crankshaft sensor, common problem on the JTD engines.
It cuts out, after a few minutes it's cooled down, and works for some time again.
Sometimes code readers/computers don't recognizes this problem at all...
I always carry a new, spare sensor in the car, just in case...

yes CRANK sensor had it replaced and running fine happy days... also had front struts, strut mounts, wheel bearing and ball joint replaced for mot shes had timing belt and water pump done last year. was looking at giving her a tune up and read about egr clean up and injector cleaning any other tune up tips pls....

how do I do this pls...

ps have another issue check it out if you can help greatly appreciated...

Alternatively you could fit a restrictor / swirl plate rather than totally blanking the EGR. Much cheaper as you don't need an ECU reprogram. Helps a lot with EGR issues.

Hi Peter,
I have reported results, Improved drivability especally at lower speeds and a 5% improvement in fuel consumption.
Furthermore, my car is legal and insured, it would not be if I'd deleted or fully blanked the EGR. If you are going to advise owners in the UK to delete/bank their EGR, please include a note that it is illegal, so they can make an informed decision.

Sorry if this looks disconnected, Peter edited his post after I replied.

Peter,
I'm not going to debate the technical or detectability points with you. I don't mind you recommending deletion. I DO mind you recomending an illegal practice without giving any warning regarding it's legality. Most of the readers on the forum do not know that this is illegal, you should give them the information they need to make an informed judgement.

Well, let me think...
It's illegal to fit: non stock wheels and tires, non stock exhaust, non stock lowering springs, non stock airfilters, tuning boxes, stiffer shock absorbers, camshafts, chiptuning ECU's, free flow headers, tempting with, or removing EGR, fitting 4 hole gasket (=non stock!!!) removing or fitting sports catalyst, etc. etc. the list is endless, will keep me busy as a Mod...:nutter:

For your info: all those things above are illegal in Holland as well, but as long as it's done in a safe way, nobody cares...

No, not all those are illegal, well not in the UK, only those effecting emissions. you do have to tell your insurer but that's another matter. And unless there is a forum rule regarding recommending illegal mods, it should not affect you as a moderator. All you have to worry about is your own posts. It's easy to add "check legal position in your country" or similar to your posts.

Btw, I recommend what's best for an engine, and I will keep on doing that.
If it's illegal or not, is the owners responsibility.

It may not be best for the engine. At least one poster reports that piston failure, by melting, has been attributed to EGR blanking. It was not claer if this was on Fiat engines or another make. This sounds possible as the exhaust gas results in a cooler burn. A proper remap might prevent this but a simple deletion would not.

hi guys please don't be falling out or ott please.... I like the idea of swirl or partial block of egr valve maybe not the full block and reprogram... if you have any links as to how to do this I would greatly appreciate this... pics info and where to get swirl thingy or things I need thanks to yous for your replys etc

ps I live in northern Ireland and we have ...mot centers... they don't probe your emissions on diesel just on petrol cars so I don't think emmissions come into it here... ps would be happy to try any of these if it meant getting better mpg but not if it would do any serious damage.

have a look at my other post from today and see if theres any advice on my new issue pls

Hi,
There is a guide for the 1.9 16V here https://www.fiatforum.com/miscellan...v-mjtd-egr-valve-restrictor-installation.html
The 8V is similar. restricter plates are available from dealers or on-line sellers.
When I was in NI may years ago the MOT was much more constent than the mainland. You would not get by with somthing tht was wrong, but they wouln't fail you to get work as they don't do the work. The emissions test requirements are the same as the mainland as it's based on EU law.
