I have a 2002 Fiat Marea 1.6 auto which will not tick over

Any ideas????

Tick over? as in starter does nothing?

There is only master fuse and ignition lock on the solenoid wiring, so if all other electrics work, its either ignition lock or starter.

You can take the plastics under steeringwheel off and short the thick wire to the solenoid to cig lighter positive (I did that as I wanted to start it) to rule out the ignition lock.

Here is my starter when I crawled under mine after I pushstarted it and drove 150km to my garage.

No warning at all. I soldered new wire to it and now it cranks little faster than originally.

The 1.6 has the starter in front so there is lots of room to work with it.

EDIT: no experience on auto, but it should have interlock to only start in park/neutral?

EDIT2: Yep, the auto seems to have relay, which is energized on park/neutral and the wire from ingition lock to starter solenoid goes trough it. Just switches and relay, no electronic control.

Thanks Neverth..,
in UK "tick-over" is a common phrase for a smooth idle ( like a clock / watch);)

hope that's what deben82 means..,
