Hi,

I got my cam belt changed on my 2006 Multipla Multijet at Mr Clutch yesterday and this morning and twice this evening the engine need to be cranked for ages before it would start although it seems fine when hot; it started almost instantly prior to the work being done, any idea what may have happened please?

Cheers,

Keith

I would say that either the timing isn't quite right or they have disconnected a fuel line and it's not quite sealing correctly

Bump on the above, fuel pipe sucking air allowing drainback sounds the most likely. Trusting Mr Clutch with something more complicated than a pushbike was your main problem.

I get customers come in all the time and say I've had such and such done at ******* tyres and now it's not right my answer is the clue is in the name ! You may have well gone to longleat and let the primates do it

I'll go for timing as well.

On modern Fiat petrol/diesel overhead cam engines with "tight engine ECU management" systems then "near enough" is "not good enough".

To do this job properly you need the pucker camshaft & crank timing tools. To just remove the old belt and replace with new and hopefully no disturbing anything/positions is not an option on modern cars be they Fiats or any other make.

Sadly there are so many different timing tools/kits for all the different models and makes it is often not possible for any given garage (especially a Mr. X.Y.Z) to poses all the tools required. However any decent garage, assuming they are not cutting cost corners, can hire on demand the tools required.

I have no idea, am not going to suggest, or otherwise speculate in your case. The garage may have had the correct tooling but made an operational/setup error.

Suggest you take the car back and get them to fix it.

Hopefully with the info I've provided you will be armed with the correct / necessary info to not be misled or otherwise confused and also be able to question in more detail the said garage.
