I hope someone can help me...

I own a Fiat 500 1.2.
I was stuck in traffic for at least an hour today - and accidentally stalled the car when pulling away. When I turned the key the first time to try and re-start the car it wouldn't fire up. I waited about a minute before trying again - and it started (reluctantly) the second time.
Then I had the Engine Management light on for the rest of the journey.

The car was sluggish at first but as the day went on there seemed to be no problem with the engine - just the fact that the warning light was still on.

However - it's gone off now!! After at least 6 or 7 re-starts of the engine throughout the day - the light has gone out.

Can anyone tell me what could have happened here?

Thanks! X

No way of really knowing without plugging in a diagnostic tool and looking any remaining freeze frame data.

Most ECUs will self reset after a number of start/stop cycles and/or continuous driving with no repeated SAME fault.

If your light has gone out then whatever fault the ECU was complaining about has been gone for some time.

I would personally make a note of date/mileage/conditions and leave it at that UNLESS the car is still under warranty. If still in warranty then getting the dealer to connect up and examine the ECU for registered faults/data will do no harm and would be my preferred course of action.

Hopefully all is now clear and you won't be bothered again. But if it does occur then the noted data will possibly be of use.
