Hi guys. Unfortunately the timing belt broke on my doblo 1.9 multijet:cry:
Not sure of the extent of damage done yet but it may mean replacing the whole motor. There seems to be a lot of 1.9,s available in various guises, can anyone tell me which other Fiat/Alfa motors will fit and what, if any mods I will need to carry out or will I have to get one from a Doblo. Thanks for any help.

You may be just be in luck.

Some of the 1.9 multijets (16V for sure) have special rocker arms that have "break" / "snap" weak points. Strong enough for normal engine running but if valve to piston contact occurs then the rocker arms break to save the valve and pistons.

In the absence of definitive information on your particular engine I would get the cam area stripped down an see if you do indeed have broken rocker arms. If you do then I believe all one has to do is replace all the rocker arms, fit new belt, tensioner, water pump etc.

Then I would hand cycle the engine (injectors out, aux belt off) and see if the valves move ok and there are not lumpy or snagging movement.

If still all OK, you could then try a compression test (have never done one on a diesel engine, and will require special guage, or you could just refit the injects and see if she runs OK.

Thanks guys, turns out it bent 4 valves and sheared crankshaft key. Also 2 pistons had evidence of having had glancing blows. So it seems a set of valves/guides, timing belt kit and a crankshaft key will be all that's needed. Pheeewww :worship: (y)(y)
