by the way anyone wants to buy it with this problem its a 2003 8v active sport
with 50283 miles on the clock taxed and mot,d till aug.any offers

There will always be a small amount of current drawn from the battery. Alarm, body computer, airbag ecu and other stuff. When a battery has been disconnected for a while then any stored charge (due to capacitors) in the modules will be lost. On reconnecting the battery there will be an inrush/surge current drawn. This is what you are seeing.

As for battery drain over several days then you will have to hunt this down with a current meter (suggest a clamp on one) and then start pulling fuses to see which fused circuit is possibly drawing too much / most current. Another possible cause is a dodgy alternator with poor charging and/or high reverse leakage current due to failing rectifier packs.

Don't forget to check the boot light and glove box lights are not comming on.
