Re: Sky Roof stuck-Need help!

Hi basically the problem is that the other day while having the roof open-i went to close it from being fully open to fully closed it got to about halfway and wouldnt budge so i opened it fully and then closed it kind of made a creaking pressure noise and then finally closed, then i got out and went to where i was going-however on coming back i noticed that the last blade eg, the one closest to driver had not met with the other blades full at first, although that is not the problem it seems that all the other blades have diagnally slanted at one side pushing it all out of sync and not just buzzes and crunches when going to open and doesnt open atall.it could be it has somthing stuck in the rails possibly like a seed from a tree? if so how could i get this out with it not opening? also how do you manually open and close the roof?
i have done a simple paint drawing to show the problem excuse the number of slats as i forgot how many it has. Many Thanks

Hi mate, yep I had the same thing happen to my abarth took it to the Fiat dealer and they simply cleaned it and replaced a screw that had worked it's way loose. Mind you I do live in the Czech Republic where Fiat repairs are dirt cheap :D

Funny skyroof

my skyroof doesn't like me :bang:

sometimes it doesn't close, one of the panels comes down then it goes back up again either waiting a while or resetting the system cures this.

Because today was warm :cool: I tried opening the skyroof on my way home from work and NOTHING hmmmmm this has never happened so I tried resetting the system nothing, tried to open the curtain and that opened 3/4 of the way, tried the skyroof nothing.

went to close the curtain and opened completley and wouldn't close!

so I opened the skyroof partially manually with the winder and then reset the system, everything closed fine, tried the skyroof, nothing, curtain works fine opens/closes.

stuff this I thought and started to drive home tried opening it a couple of times on the way back and on the 4th attempt it worked fine and is ok now :confused:

Can't be anything in the runners because that would just stop it from closing. if it breaks it breaks, just hope it breaks when it's closed so it can stay like that :)

Re: Funny skyroof

Try checking the terminal block that connects to the 'dial' fascia. I had to use some contact cleaner on mine after it got a bit furred when my windscreen was leaking.

Works a treat ;)

Re: Sky Roof stuck-Need help!

Hi

I have a Stilo 1.9JTD - the Sky Roof/ Sun Roof / Moon Roof (call it what you like ) just stopped working the other day - Took it to a Fiat Dealer (Thames Group) who looked at it and said that because it was a factory fitted one, they could not repair it and that it would cost £2,300 for a new one -

Does anyone have a workshop manual on the sky roof or know how to test it - Could it be the control unit (I have checked the fuse) - where is the control unit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

You don't say what is wrong, if it just does nothing when you turn the switch, try the reset procedure by pushing the knob in for 10 seconds.

If it opens partially but stops i'd try looking for blockages and cleaning the runners.

I haven't tried it but read on here that if you pull the skyroof control panel down inside is a key that can be used to open the roof manally.

Just press and hold the dial for about 10 seconds. That will reset the 'brain' of the skyroof.

Re: Sky Roof stuck-Need help!

Hi - thanks - I have tried this and apart from a click - it still does not work.

Re: Sky Roof stuck-Need help!

You can pull down the control unit quite easily. Just check for dry connectors. Remove the connectors and apply some contact cleaner. I very much doubt that the whole roof needs replacing.

Does the inner roof lining still retract?

Skyroof not working after reset

Hi,

I had a problem with a fiat stilo where the blind did not close properly and did not pull to the end. Now I was able to open and close the skyroof and the blind and all was working ok except for the blind not closing, I would open it and as it closed it would make a cracking noise and stop a good 5cm before the end.

I had a look at the forum and the advice was to do a quick reset. I did just that. put the skyroof knob on 0 position and pushed for 5 seconds and it worked, the blind pulled all the way and closed properly.

BUT. after that I can't seem to open or close the skyroof or the blind. I tried with the knob, with the remote and with the door key all methods fail.

I thought there might be a problem with the motor so I manually opened the skyroof and pushed the reset and again it was able to close it but afterwords it would not open the skyroof or blind.

I have also tried to take out the skyroof fuse in an attempt to have it reset its self but that did not work either

I think I am doing something wrong. does anyone know what I need to do. it is as if the controls are not responding. what do I need to do to "jump start" the controls so I can open and close the skyroof and blinds as per norm.

thanks in advance.

Re: Skyroof not working after reset

My standard suggestion is a bit like many solutions to microsoft problems - power cycle it (turn off then turn on :D )..... but in this instance try disconnecting the battery for half an hour then going back to it and see what happens.

I'm not saying it will definately work - but it might and often does solve Stilo electrical "issues"

Re: Skyroof not working after reset

You can test to see if its a jamming issue by pulling down the control console and attempting to open/close it with the alan key crank in the housing. If this works ok, then clean all electrical contacts with cleaner and try again (give it another reset.

Already done that and indeed it does work. it is just that there is no response to the open/close controls on the knob

I was thinking there is another switch/knob to set things back as before as the reset worked but did not get things back to they were afterwards

Re: Skyroof not working after reset

OK; here's the full sequence taken from eLearn
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The initialization procedure is illustrated below:

  1. turn the rotary selector knob to position '0' (fully closed)
  2. keep the rotary selector pressed (for longer than 2 secs): the roof closes
  3. wait, keeping the roof completely closed until the blind has clicked shut twice (Hard closing position and then returns to the Soft closing position)
  4. release the selector and press it again within 3 secs.
  5. keep the selector pressed until the roof (glass and blind) is completely open and then closed again
  6. release the selector;
The initialization is completed at this point.

in the case of repairs to or problems with the Body Computer or a break in the battery connections, the motor absorption may be 26+26 A max

The initialization process cannot not take place successfully if one of the following conditions occurs:

  1. The rotary selector has not been placed in position '0';
  2. The selector has been released during the manoeuvre;
  3. The blind operating button has been pressed;
If the process has not been successfully concluded it should be repeated.

:worship: Thanks for that, That is exactly what I thought the process would be. I did just try it what happened is that I get allot of continues clicks (from the blind) and when I press the selector again (during the 3 seconds) then all I hear is that continues clicking the skyroof does not open and close as per the instructions.:eek: :bang:

I guess it is back to the drawing board on this or wait until summer again (when I will need to open the skyroof) and take it to service!

Many thanks never the less. You were definitely on the right track!(y)

Re: Sky Roof stuck-Need help!

hi,

i've the same probmem since two weeks now

i've tried a reinitialization : everything closed perfectly bit no way to open the sky.

i've also tried to add some oil on it : still locked

HEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPPP !!!

Does someone managed to fix it?

Re: Sky Roof stuck-Need help!

sounds like it's dead, FIAT won't help you cos they don't know how to fix it.
Don't think that's entirely true Dan.

Main dealer in my area has had plenty of experience but it's the cost which is going to frighten most people away :eek: Many dealers will just take a look for something like £200-£300 (time to strip headlining, check motors & replace etc) but it could easily be dead money.

The moral of this story has been said time and time again.

Don't look after your sky-roof then lose it :(
