Re: Service reset...again !!!

Hello from Spain!

You can reset it with a ELM-327 cable via USB port connected to a laptop. With free software, like OBD Gauge, Scantool, etc, you can read trouble codes and the engine check light, and reset them. That kind of cable you´ll find them in Ebay, and software from internet, of course...

there are 269 different cables, what one will work on a stilo, is it a 1.2 or 1.2a or 1.3 or.............................

could you recommend one ?

Re: Service reset...again !!!

I can´t post URL´s, but search with google "obd gauge" and you´ll find a lot of download links.

OBD Gauge: This is one of the most popular. There are three versions: Palm, Pocket PC and PC. For Palm and Pocket PC instead of a ELM-327 cable you will need an OBD Key. It´s the same, but it goes throuth bluetooth. The cable will you find it in Ebay from 10 Euro, and it comes with a CD containing free software (Scantool, OBD Gauge, and a COM port emulator). The OBD key (search in youtube obd gauge bluetooth and you can see videos of people running these programs on their PDA with a BT Key) it´s over 160 euros...

Just type in Ebay "ELM 327 obd usb cable". The one I have is the black with the blue-orange sticker

WARNING!

I have personally changed 3 stilo instrument clusters due to attempts on reseting the service light using the wrong equipment. If its of any help numanR posted a interesting post to get rid of the light once and for all;)

Good Post T... Thats exactly why I said "No" originally..

Re: Service reset...again !!!

You cannot input the new service intervals and reset the SERVICE DUE warnings with a simple ELM connector or free OBD guage software. You can clear fault codes and, of course, read them but you can't set up the service intervals without more sophisticated and dedicated gear

There's a lot more garages that CAN do it with the appropriate gear but unfortunately there's a lot of garages that THINK they can do it and mess up big time when they try to bodge it. There's a confusion between the quite common SERVICE LIGHT which shows on many different cars that a significant fault code is stored and the Fiat type SERVICE DUE message which is entirely different

I´m a new member at this forum. I´ve just bought the ELM cable, because I had a friend who made me the engine light reset using one of these cables, so I decided to buy it and not disturb my friend. He did me all the resets using his cable, but I still didn´t anyone by myself. Is there any kind of probabilty of harming the ECU? Can you put the link of numanR in order to see how to reset this light forever?

Thanks a lot!!!

Re: Service reset...again !!!

NumanR simply suggested that you can request a Fiat Garage to turn off the SERVICE DUE message permanently as not a lot of people knew that was possible. So the answer is NO there is no simple DIY solution and certainly not by using an ELM interface

Personally I wonder why a message of SERVICE DUE-CHECK OK actually bothers people as there's a whole load of other systems that self check on start up and then go off a few seconds later. It's not like the BING ATTENTION ATTENTION WARNING- AIRBAG FAILURE- STOP ENGINE EVACUATE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY kind of message

People who have tried (or allowed others using the wrong equipment) to bodge turning the SERVICE DUE warning message have cost themselves many hundreds of pounds so the simplest and most reliable method, if the message really irritates you, is to go see your friendly Fiat specialist or dealer

Welcome to the forum.

This is an old thread(2008).

Things have changed since then.

You can reset the service light using FiatECUScan(http://www.fiatecuscan.net) quite easily, and its not that expensive considering what its able to do. Well worth the money IMO ...

Very easy! But read the guide on the site and all info presented in the app (read it twice).

Wha I found with the remote relearn is it didn't work first time (or so I thought) so I tried again, and it still didn't work. Then 5 mins later the tempted could unlock, but not lok, 5 more mins and normal service resumed with lock and unlock working fine. Not sure of this is connected, but when I though it hadn'tworked I went into the drivers door computer option and was dicking about locking/switching on interior lights etc.

Remember you can also switch on "indicator flashining" on locking/unlocking. Like pretty much all modern cars with remote locking. A feature Fiat in their infinite wisdom switched off for UK owners lol.

Oh and you'll find a ****-ton of stored errors in tue various systems lol. Mainly airbag/ebd/abs all the random codes that have popped up at sometime in your car ownership. :) you can clear all them too, and then monitor them properly in future.
