Help!! :bang:

I have a 3dr stilo dynamic on a 52 plate, it has a storage area above the glove box with a hinged door. The door hinge has broken away at one side. I cannot figure out how to remove this part from up inside the dashboard.

Can any one help. If so please email me : [email protected]

Many Thanks...

Oh dear! You may have confirmed my worst thoughts.....

I have had an email from another owner with exactly the same problem as mine. He says that he has heard its a fiddly job also.

Looks like a job for the summer when the roof tiles arn't blowing off at me on the drive.

Thanks.

Its a pig of a job and is in short a bit of a dash board strip down ..I understand that you are working completely blind and by feel to some extent ..has one done under warranty a few week ago on the wifes new 3dr and I was at the dealers for 8hrs  just glad I didnt have to pay for that one

When the first one's were changed dealers would remove complete dash, now with experience they use cut down spanners, break 3 fingers and put a blindfold on to do.(book time around 2.75 hrs, in reality around 5-6 hrs job)

The moral of the story seems to be "make sure the hinge doesn't get broken in the first place" :(

Anyone have any ideas how they break? Is it just general abuse or perhaps trying to open too hard or trying to open/close by grabbing only the corner :chin:

Would be interesting to know to warn others (y)

Its none of the above in my case the opinion of the dealer that my car went into was, he said they know the fault exists so why do they continue to make it in plastic :bang:

Mine was broken, always was from the day I bought it - and the cost to fix it at the time was obscene, so I left it...

All this aggro could once again been avoided if fiat had changed the material for the hinges to metal and not the cheap and nasty plastics they use ..do they enjoy tormenting the owners of their cars with these ridiculous and stupid faults if we can see the logic behind these things then for god sake surely they can ..they must have literally hours of labour charges from dealers charged against them with these items which can be avoided by a simple material change ..I wonder at the mentality of them some times I really do :bang:

Getting it all wrong these days  :D

The design is totally idiotic. You could overlook using a plastic hinge if it took 10 minutes to replace but to use one when it takes 6 hours is insane :bang:

I'd always assumed these got broken through clumsy use but that doesn't seem to be the case :(

I got the car 2nd hand, so no idea what the original owner did with it - I was told it was a non-warranty item, and that the whole dash had to be removed, etc - so I let it slide...

None warranty item  not daft are they ..when you consider a hinge takes upto [as in my case 8 hrs ] to replace ..who the hell thought this one up mickey mouse ..think I would have pushed it though Stu if I had been you :)

3rd year warranty at the time, and to be honest, I couldn't be arsed to keep pushing it - was only a hinge for something I never used, or very occassionally to maybe change a few CDs.

Ah I see the dreaded 3rd year warranty where they more or less disown the car from what I have read on here :(
