The bastard thing fell off out of no where! Went to fiats and they gave me some RUBBISH glue called 'Loctite Rear View Mirror Adhesive' stay away from this stuff as it is a waste of time and can ruin your mirror and window if you apply it and something goes wrong.

My question is what is the best product to use to glue it back on????

any one have any ideas?

THANK YOU!

PS: stay away from Loctite Rear View Mirror Adhesive' !

I had the same problem with my first car many years ago - a Metro!!!

I used contact adhesive from B&Q. A mechanic recommended it and it worked fine.

I'd hang on a while and see what some of the other guys on here come up with first though.

You can get the sticky pads that apparently work fairly well.

In the past I've used Araldite, but you have to hold the mirror in place for ages until it cures. Masking tape etc is good to hold it in position and leave it overnight to fully cure.

Ok....one question.....Masking tape?? Are you serious?

haha i knowi want my mirror back on badly but i also want it to look good! I wouldnt really like to have white tape sprawled all over the glass!

Without being too fussy i would like a strong adhesive that would descretley attach my mirror back!!!

Anyone?
Diablo

I'v only ever had to do this once and that was on an old seat the mirror came of and luckily left the adhesive pad from the mirror on the screen and I managed to use super strong industrial strength super glue they had in work to fix it back on I have tried the pad kits for mirrors from hell frauds and TBO their crap was on son-in-laws car dont think he will miss the mirror looking at the rest of the car

I think you'll find he only meant use masking to hold it in place until it dried rather than having to hold the mirror there, you'd remove the tape after the mirror was securely glued.

I too think the mirror pads are nowhere near strong enough for the heavier mirrors fitted with anti dazzle. Industrial glue, 3M type usually the stuff you have to mix two compounds together and stand well back from are the better ones. The rest you'll more than likely be wasting your time with. Use what the windscreen replacement boys use, big 3M or Araldite mastic gun - booof - job done. You want quick drying stuff, none of this "leave to harden for 4 hours nonsense- as it's arm aching waiting for rubbish stuff to go off

Careful not to let the stuff run down the screen and mop up any spillages straightaway (have kitchen towels ready)

Turn the radio on and stay there, don't leave it until you're really sure it's staying put, you turn your back, clop, down it falls and glue all over your gearshift. Masking tape is a good idea to hold it whilst it's drying, at least it won't fall completely then

When my mirror fell off, I tried all types of stuff - but the mirror is so heavy...

...so went to a windscreen replacement depot, and got one of their bods to stick it back on, using the industrial glue. Paid them a few quid, sorted.

You would then remove the masking tape when the Araldite has hardened. :bang: else you would be able to see where you are going.

Well, speaking of rear mirrors, got stuck in traffic behind one of these things. The music on the radio starts getting worser, and then you cant help looking around, well, the point of the story is, I cant believe how ugly this car is, and what is the point of these horrendous huge pole mirrors on the back, Basildon is just full of these vehicles for some reason. Award for the #1 Most Ugliest Car in the World. The Japs make excellent cars, but beats me why they made this(y)

The mirror is so you don't reverse into stuff, cos you can't see jack from the drivers seat.

Lol, this is surely a Jap concept as Ive never seen this on British Toyota ppl carriers. Being the makers of Sony and Toshiba and the masters of standard electrics in old cars dating back to the 70s you would have thought parking sensors would have been standard, yet they proceed with this ugly mirror.

Not as dopey as they look though, one overtook my Stilo and was long gone and I was doing 85mph.

Ooooh... that's a Toyota Estima Lucida Luxury X - the wide-body version... also look for the luxury curtains... ;) and less-luxuriously, the characteristic Toyota zig-zags in the unpainted plastic bumper.

People would say that the Multipla is MUCH uglier...

We have a large number of the Enemas in New Zealand - oops, the Lucida Eminas... a narrow-body version created to reduce the tax paid in Japan.

The NZ-market name (and probably the UK-market name) is the Previa. If you think it's ugly, compare with the previous-generation van-based things like the Town-Ace... the 'space hopper' in Top Gear's MPV racing inaugral championship.

The mirrors are fitted to everything of this type in Japan.

My favourite has to be the Nissan Serena FX Rio, I mean, where do they get these names... "Oh, having decided on a Serena, I had to look long and hard to find an FX, and then the Rio as well, that was a bonus..."

The Serena's most notable peculiarity is the ~3 degrees negative camber on the rear wheels, presumably to enhance the grip of this top-heavy massage parlour on wheels... But having a name like Rio, it immediately makes me think of hula hoops and dancers, or maybe of Duran Duran...

Oh and back on topic - polyurethane sealant ('Tiger seal') sticks anything to anything. I've also used superglue. But the proper glue IS the adhesive that the FIAT dealer provided (Loctite 212) and it DOES work the best... but you have to be thorough with the preparation and the clamping (I suspect the last part was why it failed). It reminds me of the front quarterlights ('vent windows') on the FIAT 128 saloon - the pivots used to fall off... proper glue was the Loctite stuff... this problem is not new!
