Temperature Gauge HELP!!!

Hi I have a Fiat Stilo 1.2 16v Active.

I have a problem with the temperature gauge, When driving home from Wales last night down the motorway i noticed the gauge went right down to cold, when i leave it running the temperature gauge shows normal, but then when i drive the car it tends to go low and high.BUT Sometimes it stays in the middle as normal...... EVERYTHIN STILL NORMAL i.e. The heater still blows hot air etc etc

I have changed the thermostat today and still doing the same.

Can anyone help me PLEASE???????? Is it the wiring or a problem with the car..

Have you checked the water level? Does the water look normal?

Does the heater still blow hot whilst the gauge is showing cold?

Just clutching at straws here.

Re: Temperature Gauge HELP!!!

Whilst there are many things that can make an engine run hot there's only one thing that can make it run cold and that's the thermostat.

Since you've changed that then it follows it can only be the gauge or the sender. It's far more likely to be the sender unit but before you change it have a check to make sure the connector to it is not just corroded or making a poor connection.

Antifreeze all year round to prevent corrosion, and to keep higher temp before boiling...
