Re: Sky-roof leaking?

I used to think the water exited as described but I've now come to the conclusion that it actually exits in the scuttle area. (not proven yet though). I believe the scuttle area itself then dumps the water onto a similar location on the ground giving the impression that a tube goes all the way from the roof to the sill.

Once you get the drainage tube really clean then water exits very fast! I'd say that after pouring water into the gutter you should hear it splattering on the ground within only seconds. I found using hot water helped a lot but you do need to be very careful not to force the cable as this could push the tube off the end of the sky-roof gutter drain  which I think would then require removal of the roof lining :(

Good luck (y)

Re: Water ingress in drivers footwell

Thankyou Argonought! that was well and truely blocked I even stripped out the lining and put a hose down the pipe and that wouldnt clear it, I ended stripping out the scuttle and wippers to discover a compost heap behind the wiper motor!! all clear and plenty of gurggling upon full drainage.
Oh the joys of a new car eh!!

Leaking sun roof

I cleaned and greased my sun roof, and after that I have leaking problems, grease plugged drain holes!. :bang: It started with two drain holes, and now all of them are plugged and I can't unplug. I tried also with some chemicals, but nothing ...
Please, give me some answers and advices:
- How to reach back side holes to try cleaning?
- Where is the exits of drains and can I clean drains from other side?
- Which is the best tool for unplugging this holes?
Thanks in advance! :worship:

Re: Leaking sun roof

Best tool as such I've used (not on the Stilo admittedly) for cleaning out drains from sunroofs is strimmer wire (the plastic stuff) - well, it worked for me

Re: Leaking sun roof

Thanks, that's good, but I can't go more than meter, then stops. Also I can't find back drain holes. It could be good to know where are outlets of this drains, to try from the other side.

On my MW estate, the rear drains come down right at the back of the car. Take the side trim panels off in the boot to find them. I assume others are the same.

Re: Leaking sun roof

Thanks for picture Argo. John, I shall try to find out drains in boot too, becouse this drains on back side I can't find on the roof. :nono:

What do you say guys about taking off this mud covers around all wheels and find 4 exit holes from sky roof, then clean it from down?

I think it's a really bad idea (n)

The worst thing that can happen is the drain tubes can get pushed off the gutter connectors (on sky-roof) which then means you must drop the roof lining to push them back on (although not done this myself).

If you can only clear the front then you just need to make sure you only park facing downhill ;) As you should have read, the front exits to the scuttle area so not a long run.

Re: Leaking sun roof

Maybe you are wright, but I'm desperate. I was parking in this way facing down, but only when was not raining .... :D
Tomorrow is a new day for experiments .... :(

Re: Leaking sun roof

Success !!!! (y):worship::)
I'm genious!!:slayer:

Normally, everything is very simply: The drain pipes pass through front studs on the front side, and through side trunk covers at the back side. That is black plastic pipe, around 15 mm, you must notice it.
On the front side, remove stud cover, very easy with fingers, it's on plastic holders (click). You don't need to remove it, just get enough space to pull plastic drain pipe from inside. Cut it, but not on the pipe holder place :nono:. Now you can clean pipes on booth sides with any tool, and strongly bleed with mouth. Finally it must be very easy blowing. Take a 5 cm (2 inches) peace of pipe for garden (1/2 inch), grease drain pipe and connect it. Put pipe back in plastic holders and put cover back by click.
On the back side, just open side covers in trunk, you will see black plastic pipe. Cut it, clean, bleed (use a peace of the same garden pipe to elongate), and connect back.
Simple? Very! 15 minutes maximum, less time then I spent cursing my greasing ideas.
Now I go finally to wash my car! :yum:

I made few pictures, if Argonought wants to add this guide on his, be my guest! (y)

Thanks John! You gave me starting idea to find this pipes. (y)

Sorry, don't quite follow this part  Do you mean remove the scuttle cover?

....or are you saying I'm wrong about the drain exiting into the scuttle area?

Re: Leaking sun roof

It's front pillar trim left and right. I was looking in e-learn. Sorry about my English, it's difficult with this technical language. :D
Argo, I think you are right about scuttle area, it seems that the front drain pipes ends there, but I was not very interesting about that when I found middle of pipe.
Here are some pictures about that, it says more than words.
Yesterday I washed my car, finally!

Re: Sky-roof leaking?

Great guide and I hope it's not needed in anger. Had 02 Stilo 3 door about 18 months and didn't have a problem. Just bought a 52 MW, searched country for one just to get a skyroof, they are the biz in warmer climes. Warm wind in your hair, whats left, and cool feet from aircon at no extra fuel cost.

Good stuff Argo

You don't do you, I have aways been under the impression that when you have the air-con on you have everything shut up and once the air con has the required temp it then doesn't need to work very hard but if you have the windows and roof open the air-con is working hard for no benefit what so ever and that you ruin the air-con system.

I have read such warnings in manuals for diggers that have it so i assume that its the same for cars.

However if I'm wrong i will stand corrected:)

Re: Leaking sun roof

Hi Muki, can you clarify what your last pic shows? I have a Multiwagon. Is this your boot area, or rear side trim panel? Thanks for the helpful posts :)

Re: Leaking sun roof

I am going to use some net curtain wire to clean out the drain tubes. You may have to blag your gran's. It is a long tightly coiled spring with a plastic coating, about 3.5 mm diameter. Flexible but should ave a bit more push than strimmer cable. See how it goes..
