(G) Gearbox keeps falling apart

Bought my 2003 plate Stilo 1.8 in april this year from fiat arnold clark, and my whole gearbox broke in May and had to be replaced with a brand new one. Now the other day my sports exhaust fell off the brackets and was hanging down so i took it 2 exhaust place thinking it would b a simple fix and when they got under the car they noticed why the exhaust had fallen off because the gearbox mounts had smashed and the gearbox had basically fallen out allowing the engine to rock and the exhaust 2 move and break all the brackets.

So not exactly happy the now as its in fiat again getting fixed. So glad i took out the warranty. But the garage has no courtesy cars left so im stuck without a car now. Also i was supposed to be getting my body kit fitted this week but obviously cant now!

glad to hear you've got warrenty or that could have been rather expensive for yourself.... I know my freind blew the gearbox in his 1.6 3times in his 2years of ownership the first 2 covered by warrenty and the 3rd not and that set him back just over £1K at my local fiat garage

could the reason the 2nd box has gone due to cr@p workmanship replacing the 1st box?

just out of intrest what sort of mileage has your motor clocked up?

Very frightening when his happens to our stilo's have heard it happenes on Punto's to

its only done just over 23,000 miles. i just dont understand why it keeps breaking and fiat obviously wont tell me. i mean all my friends say its cos i drive it so fast and stuff but no way could it break that fast from a brand new gearbox.

I wonder if the 1.6 and 1.8 use a common casting for their gearboxes anyone know if they do

well if your constantly thrashing the nuts off it, not matter if its done minor miles it ent gona be doing the gearbox any good! I find when i rev anything over 5.5k its just dead revving and obviously putting strain on the box, so thts usually were i change her up!

Make sure you get some picture up when your bodykits on mate, should look stunning, espically in your colour .....not tht im bias lol

Another brand new gearbox is getting fitted the now and my car should be out by friday night they said. Although garage doesnt have any courtesy cars left so im left without a car until then! Yeah i do take it easy and never go above 6k revs anyways, but il make sure i take it extra easy wen get car back. Yeh my car is going into the garage next week to get kit fitted, so il have photos up by next weekend. And ive got my new alloys on which i hope the garage doesnt scratch!

Dont forget my 1.2 like eating gear boxes- and i dont drive it like its stolen
